Suicide
A topic very much related to my generation. There are, of course, many ways to “commit” this final act upon your own self. However, I choose the one that is not so obvious. You know what that choice is?
…living.
That is my choice of suicide. Think about it for a second. Everyday is like a new thrill, you could be run over, get in an accident, forget about water and the floor and fall and break your neck. Just a few of the millions of things that could happen. Or even worse, not happen.
It is very apparent by looking at adults today how miserable they really are. Business, media, government, no matter what they choose, more than half of the adults aren’t happy… you know why?
Neither do I. Maybe they spend too much time figuring out what to do, or what not to do, or what to buy, and who I should vote for in the next election, and what is the latest on Ben and J.Lo., and does this food have too much fat, or too many calories, and does everyone really have to be so self centered?
…okay I’m sorry. That last one is only thought by a rare few, and is even more rarely asked. I apparently am one of those rare few...which is in itself being self centered. But at least I’m acknowledging it.
A wonderful example is media. An example of what exactly? How incredibly self-centered we all are.
You should be confused by now, and if you keep reading then you’ve probably got an open mind. If you’ve stopped reading then I doubt I would have made an impact on you anyway. If you’re interested but confused, go back and reread from the start. I probably would anyway just to make sure I didn’t miss anything since I’m rambling.
Self centered means…duh centered on yourself. In your own world, caring about yourself, but if you think about it then it can also include the people around you. Your family and friends, coworkers, neighbors, whoever affects your life and you know them as more than just a face.
This includes celebrities.
Imagine having 10,000 people that think you’re the best thing since sliced bread. Sounds pretty good huh? Plenty of people to help you feel better if you feel a little depressed, or after something you’ve done didn’t work out too well (for example a movie or three). You ever try to sleep with 10,000 people? Even just 1,000? 100?
Try eating with all the people in the world.
Try sitting with all the people in the world.
Try talking with all the people in the world.
It is in that one way that you can grasp the full scope of the world, and once you do that, your own life will seem as a speck of dust on top of a TV off in a guest room, in a Bed and Breakfast, in North Dakota.
Then you would have committed suicide, and perhaps you may save other’s lives in trying to be more than just a speck of dust.
And remember, be a builder, not a destroyer, in order for your daily suicide to be worthwhile.
