| According to Heaney and Heideman (1987), no specimens have been taken since the original | |
| series was collected on Panay in 1896. The forests, on which the species depended for | |
| roosting sites and food, have been largely destroyed by human activity. | |
| There have been recent sightings on the island of Boracay (Maro and Ingle, | |
| unpubl. data -1995) that may represent this species. Dr. Larry Heaney says that | |
| the Acerodon lucifer and the Acerodon jubatus are the same species. | |
