Remarks: The species A. lucifer is considered extinct by the IUCN.
According to Heaney and Heideman (1987), no specimens have been taken since the original
series was collected on Panay in 1896. The forests, on which the species depended for
roosting sites and food, have been largely destroyed by human activity.
There have been recent sightings on the island of Boracay (Maro and Ingle,
unpubl. data -1995) that may represent this species. Dr. Larry Heaney says that
the Acerodon lucifer and the Acerodon jubatus are the same species.
