He stood on the shore staring out over the rough water, the dark clouds reflecting his bleak mood perfectly. Intense hazel eyes watched the relentless pounding of the waves upon the sand, fascinated and enthralled by the simple action others took for granted.
A light breeze stirred, gently caressing his clothes and tugging his hair. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, letting the scent of the ocean fill his nostrils and his entire being.
"I knew you would be here." The voice behind him made Paul open his eyes, but he didn't turn around.
"I like it here," he replied simply, folding his arms to ward off any chill. He felt rather than saw the person who had spoken to him come and stand beside him, following his gaze out to sea.
Paul shut his eyes again, this time tightly. It hurt to be this closeto be so close and yet so far. He might as well have been a hundred miles from here.
He turned to face his companion. "Um, would you like to get a-"
"I missed you."
Paul broke off in mid sentence. Tim slowly turned to face him. Paul gazed deep into his soft brown eyes, easily reading the pain in them for he was sure it was mirrored in his own.
"God Timmy, I missed you so much," he blurted, taking a step forward. Tim stood his ground, but his expression was incredibly sad.
"It'd never work Paulie," he said mechanically, although his eyes told a very different story. "I'm married - and you're aa guy."
Paul took another step forward. "I don't care," he whispered. Slowly, tentatively, he slipped his arms around Tim's waist. Overhead thunder rumbled, but neither one of them heard it.
Tim reached up and lightly stroked Paul's face, sending a cascade of shivers down both their spines.
They gazed at each other, each afraid to make the first move, neither daring to pull away. Suddenly their lips met, caressing and gentle, but with growing heat.
A loud crash of thunder made them both jump, leaping away from each other. Rain began to fall, hard and fast. Paul offered Tim a lopsided grin.
"My appartment's not far from here. We'll drown if we stay." With that he took off towards his home, Tim not far behind, an equally huge grin plastered on his face. This was wrong, and he knew it, but it just felt so RIGHT.
"AND THE SKYS THEMSLEVES SHALL WEEP FOR THE PASSION THEY SHARED IN A FORBIDDEN LOVE THAT SHOULD NEVER BE"
Tim grabbed Paul's hand just before they reached his appartment, turning him around to face him. Gently he cupped Paul's angelic face in his hands and gazed deep into his eyes.
"I love you."
Paul's eyes filled with tears of joy. "Oh Timmy," he whispered. "I love you more than life itself." Their lips met once more, rekindling the old spark between them that refused to die, ignited by their passion and their love.
And the rain beat down harder than ever before.
