I would like to start by introducing myself as Cheri R. Dino. I reside in Pollock, Louisiana along with my wonderful husband J.L. Dino, "who is an American Rabbit Breeder Judge." He introduced me to the exciting world of rabbits, and especially our adorable furry friends, the Holland Lop. I have recently accepted the position as President of the La. Holland Lop Breeders Assn. I am not really sure what I am supposed to do, but I know I am also very eager to learn. But I will say that I have a wonderful Teacher in Sheila Spillers and with your help and my love of the Hollands, I know that I can help this club grow. Right now, I am concentrating on learning more of what the job encompasses as President but I am working first on recruiting new members as the membership of the club is very low. Before we can plan specialty shows and other club functions there is a need for more members and more capitol to give us a good foundation and a club that can give us the enjoyment it was meant to do. I will need the help of every one of you to solicit new members for our club. As soon as I have Holland's in numbers, I will try to give a trio at a drawing at one of the shows to try to stimulate more interest with our Hollands. I would ask that you too help in this way at least once a year, if no more than a pair. I would also hope you will support our club in the functions we have for this coming year. I want to make this club a success, with members that are all of our extended families... our friends... and that definitely share in the love and enjoyment to not only raise, but to help promote our Holland Lops. I am going to get Joseph (Dino) to help me make a pamphlet on the care and raising of Hollands and also give the bad points, so the new breeders will not give up on raising them. I want to make this in simple English so that a new breeder will have no problems understanding them. When this Pamphlet is finished, I will be glad to give you one so you can run off some copies to give to each person who buys a Holland from you. I fell to put our bunny in front we have to do a lot of educating. Our little Hollands do a great job of selling themselves but we have a job with new breeders as well.... to not give up when they encounter "Holland Problems." I not only think we need to educate the new breeder but also the JUDGES who will not judge them as the standard states. I feel we, as breeders are going to have to stick around after the show and show judges what the standard calls for. I know if we approach them "friendly" they will listen and hopefully we can get some to change their ways as to how they are now judging them.
I would like to close this by thanking the TAYLORs for starting the club and the good work they did during their tenure. I hope to take the club where they left off and continue the job of promoting our little treasures, the Holland Lop.
