| Caring for Hamsters |
| -Hamster like to sleep a lot in the daytime and work at night. So the first thing to consider is to give them a home where they like to sleep on. While you do that, consider a hamster's natural habitat. They like to sleep underground, where it is nice and dark. So be sure to place their cage in a dim-lit room where there will be no drafts, sunlight, or noises. -When you purchase a hamster, you also need to consider their cage or tank. A non-wood cage can be helpful. If it is wood, they will most likely to be gnawing on it and breaking through. If you are more happy with a tank, be sure it is a 10 gallon aquarium tank with proper ventilation. And always be sure to place a fine-mesh screen that is heavily fastened to prevent escapes. -When you line the bottom of the tank, line it with dry hay or shredded white paper. -Be sure you don't own any vicious animals(known to hamster)in the house. If you do, leave them away from where your hamster is placed. -Give it a apple tree twig for its daily gnawing and scratching. -Always practice good housekeeping such as: a. cleaning its cage twice a week. b. always clean its cage around the late afternoon or everning. c. check for disinfectant or rotten food left behind by your hamster. d. clean its water and wipe the sipper with a dry clean towel. |
