CHAPTER 1: Maybe Some Other Time

Lori: (walking out into the living room) Do you want to go walk around Times Square, Jessie?
Jessica: (looking up from magazine) Guess what, Lorr?
Lori: (sitting down on the couch) What?
Jessica: (excitedly) Well, I just read in Popstar that Matt's single and looking for a girlfriend.
Lori: That's cool, but it's not like I'm gonna date him. (pause) He probably wouldn't give me the time of day.
Jessica: Do you know that for a fact?
Lori: No, but it's not like I'm hot like Britney Spears.
Jessica: And you think Matt only likes bimbos like Britney?
Lori: Don't all guys?
Jessica: Some don't.
Lori: But most ALL guys do though if you think about it.
Jessica: You have nothing to worry about Lorr. I mean, if you're not shy and just act like yourself he'll like you. Don't be shy.
Lori: I'm not gonna meet him.
Jessica: I'm just saying that you could meet him. ONE DAY.
Lori: I wish.
Jessica: Dream On. It could happen. You never know.
Lori: I guess, but what are the chances of me running into Matt or any of the guys for that matter, over summer vacation?
Jessica: I'm visiting my Aunt Bonnie.....think about it...
Lori: You're not trying to trick me are you?
Jessica: We should go bowling.
Lori: Oooh. I love bowling. Let's do it.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~WITH THE GUYS~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Jesse: So, when is Jessica and her friend gonna get here?
Matt: Yeah, I know. It's getting kind of boring just sitting here.
Greg: Wanna start a game? We can always start a new one when they show up.
Jesse: Yeah. That's a good idea.
Frankie: Is anyone hungry?
Matt: Yeah. Chris is. He's over there sitting in a booth eating french fries.
Frankie: We can't start a game.
Jesse: What? Why not?
Frankie: Because Jessica and her friend just got here.
Greg: So much for my idea.
Jessica: Hey guys.
Lori: Holy shit.
Matt: Holy shit?
Jesse: Why'd she say holy shit?
Jessica: Wanna field this one, Lorr?
Lori: No, not really.
Chris: Hey Jessica's friend.
Jessica: Say hi Lorr.
Lori: (quietly) Hi.
Chris: Whazzzzzzzzzzzzzup?
Lori: (quietly) Nothing.
Matt: (to Greg, in a whisper) She's shy.
Greg: (to Matt, in a whisper) Yeah she is. (thinking out loud) You should talk to her.
Matt: And why should I talk to her?
Greg: Never mind. I was just..thinking out loud to myself.
Lori: I'm...gonna go to the vending machine Jessica.
Jessica: Anyone want anything at the vending machine?
Matt: I want reeses pieces!
Chris: I want sour patch kids!
Greg: (pouting) I doubt they have pez in the vending machines.
Frakie: I want peanut chews, if they have it.
Jesse: I want gummy bears.
Jessica: OK. Somebody wanna go with Lorr and help her out?
Lori: They don't have to. I can manage it.
Chris: So you know what all of us wants?
Lori: Um..yeah..I may be a blonde but I'm not dumb.
Chris: I didn't say you were dumb.
Lori: 2 reeses pieces, 1 sour patch kids, 1 peanut chews, if they have it, 1 gummy bear....Jessica do you want anything?
Jessica: Cooler ranch doritos, please.
Frankie: So, who's getting the other reeses pieces?
Matt: I was just gonna ask the same thing.
Lori: I am. (pause) I hope that's OK.
Narrator: Once Lori knew what everyone wanted she took two steps backwards, turned around and walked to the vending machine that was about 20 feet away. She searched for the items that she needed to get and saw that they barely had anything. It was only poptarts and gum. Not much of a selection.
Matt: (in a whiny voice) How long does it take to get reeses pieces?
Jessica: You know what you guys.....a please and thank you would go a long way.
Frankie: Please and thank you.
Jessica: Don't be a smart ass, Frankie.
Frankie: I thought we were supposed to say please and thank you to you.
Jessica: I'm not the one over at the vending machine BUYING you guys your snacks. (pause) It's pretty rude to not even say please.
Greg: She has a point.
Jesse: Like you're one to talk Greg. You didn't say please or thank you either.
Lori: Ugh. I hate this. This is so fuckin' pointless.
Matt: They don't have my reeses pieces! WHAT THE HELL! THIS SUCKS!
Narrator: Lori glanced around and saw Matt standing next to her, but a few inches away. LIFE SUCKS, she thought to herself. Well, unless you're Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson. She looked back at the vending machine and then walked away and went into the arcade. She sat at one of the racing games and leaned her head back against the seat.
Matt: Wanna race?
Narrator: Matt had followed behind her a few feet and watched her sit down at one of the games. He sat at the one beside her. When she heard somebody's voice she figured that it was talking to someone else so she ignored it.
Matt: Wanna race? Lorr?
Narrator: Lori glanced to her right and saw that no one was sitting there and then glanced to her left. She was in shock when she saw that Matt was sitting there.
Matt: So, do you?
Lori: Do what?
Matt: Race. If you don't wanna it's cool.
Lori: Maybe some other time.
Matt: (sounding disappointed) Oh. Well, OK. I guess I'll just.....I'm gonna go to the snack place or whatever and get a soda.
Lori: (quietly) OK.
Matt: Just out of curiosity though....
Narrator: Lori turned her head and looked at him.
Matt: How come you don't wanna race?
Lori: I'm just not in the mood right now.
Matt: Oh. Well, OK then. I guess we'll race some other time or somethin'.
Narrator: Matt got up and walked off, leaving Lori sitting there alone with no one to talk to. She stared at the screen as it moved and she just zoned out.
Lori: (muttering) Yeah. Maybe some other time.
