Fur and meat
The French Angora is the most popular angora for commercial wool purposes. Its large body shape also makes it a good candidate for meat. Unlike its breed-as-a-pet counterpart, The English Angora, the French Angora does not have furnishings on its paws and ears. The French Angora also doesn't end up looking like a tumbleweed. French Angora has fur that grows over six inches.
The French were pretty much the first people who realized you could do something with this rabbit *other* than have it sit around and look like a tumbleweed, and that is why it is called the French Angora instead of the Turkey Angora. The French Angora was the ancestor of all other angora rabbits.
