Despite its name, the American Sable, also known as the Sable, originates in France, like so many other rabbits. There is, however, a little bit of debate over the origin of the Sable. Most people agree that it was being bred from a Chinchilla. Some people believe the other half of the rabbit is angora, and others believe it is chocolate Havana. The Sable was first shown in France in the 1900s. The Sable's eyes have a ruby color to them. In normal light, however, their eyes appear brown. If you shine a light in your Sable's eyes and they do not shine red, then your rabbit is disqualified for showing. Other disqualifications include white fur on any part of the body. Sable's have smooth, rollback coats with an even sepia color throughout. There is shading effects, though, and its head and extremeties are darker than the rest of its body. They have a slightly arched body and a wide-set head. Sables are extremely mellow and placid, making them great for beginners. |
