PROCLAMATION
by the
Governor of the State of California
WHEREAS, the people of California owe a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who served in the armed forces to protect our precious liberties; and
WHEREAS, during World War II, countless individuals of Filipino Ancestry answered our nation's highest call of duty; and
WHEREAS, Filipino American soldiers fought courageously in the face of adversity and played an integral part in the liberation of the Philippine Islands from Japanese occupying forces; and
WHEREAS, on May 19, 2001, the California National Guard is honoring Filipino American World War II veterans during its Armed Forces Day celebration;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GRAY DAVIS, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim May 19, 2001 as "Filipino American World War II Veterans Honor and Recognition Day."
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 16th day of May 2001.

I am indeed honored and delighted to recognize the selfless dedication and service of the "Old Warriors" on this special occasion in Honor of Filipino- American WWII Veterans. Let us commemorate and celebrate together on this Armed Forces Day, your war time accomplishments that are so long overdue.
To the Philippine Scouts Heritage Society; Veterans of the 1st and 2nd Filipino INF Regiments; the 1st Reconnaissance BN Special, US Army, 1942 - 1946; all US Army Forces in the Far East, Veterans, US Navy and Coast Guard Veterans and all other US Armed Forces Veterans. Thanks for your gallantry, your selfless service and indelible sacrifices. In both times of war and peace your contributions have made us the great nation we enjoy today.
