Saturn is constantly trying to cram down our throats this notion of them as being this down homsey, folksy, friendly anti-corporate company. They want the public to think that they "really care." It's a lie. It's all part of a slick marketing campaign, one that I was so foolishly sucked into. Their act lasts only as long as the customer is passive. When you really try to complain, to people above those within the Saturn retail facility, you get typical corporate types who couldn't be colder, more unbending or aloof if they tried. They speak in a very automatic condescending manner and sound as though they are reading a script. It feels like they are looking at a chart that says, "If Customer Says This", "Then You Say This". They don't listen and don't even make a very good attempt at even pretending to do so.
In my case, they even attempted to turn the poor quality of their product around, and back at me. I was told that since I didn't change my oil at EXACTLY 3,000 mile intervals (And who does?) since I've owned my car (sometimes I went 4,000 to 6,000 miles), that it was my fault that I needed a new engine at 100,000 miles. If every engine that didn't get it's oil changed at exactly 3,000 miles were to die at 100,000 miles, there wouldn't be a car left on the road. Shoot, I've had friends who laugh and admit to going 10,000 or even 15,000 between oil changes, and they have never had to replace an engine in any car they've owned, and I've seen some high milers. Even my friend's 1989 Hyundai Excel had well over 100,000 miles on it before she got rid of it, because everything else was broken, but still, the engine was running.
I feel that this is completely unacceptable. I will never own another American car, and certainly never another Saturn. I will do all I can to steer anyone that I know or will meet away from ever considering a Saturn. I can't let another individual be duped by this "promise you everything, give you nothing" company. |
