| Hip Hop is the culture from which rap music emerged from. Hip Hop culture is defined as a movement, which is expressed through various artisticmediums that are called elements. Initially Hip Hop consisted of three main elements. These elements are emceeing (rapping/talking in rhyme over a beat), deejaying (beat-juggling, scratching with turntables), and graffiti art. Recently the element of fashion was added because this is one of the most important ways in which Hip Hop culture defined and differentiated itself from other cultures. Hip Hop is a lifestyle with its own language, style of dress, music and mind set that is continuously evolving. Initially, all of Hip Hop's major facets were forms of self expression. The driving force behind all these activities was people's desire to be seen and heard. Within the past 20 years, Hip Hop culture has greatly influenced the entertainment world with its creative contributions in music, dance, art, poetry, and fashion. Hip Hop is a culture, a way of life for a society of people who identify, love and cherish rap music, deejaying, and graffiti. Millions of people embrace and follow Hip Hop culture around the world. Rap music has become the fastest growing and expanding subsection of the music industry. Hip Hop culture is becoming more and more popular and is influencing and penetrating into all forms of art and society. Hip Hop represents a growing $5 billion industry. Hip Hop culture touches on music, clothing, technology, and lifestyle. Large corporations and businesses realize that Hip Hop culture is embraced by a large demographic. This is proven by the recent increase in the amount of research and development, new products and advancement, and advertising that is geared toward hip culture. Technology has played a large part in the development and advancement of Hip Hop culture. Without the invention of the turntable or the microphone, Hip Hop would not exist. Recently, with the help of the Internet, and television networks such as BET (Black Entertainment Television), more people are being exposed to the Hip Hop culture; which makes information and knowledge about Hip Hop culture more easily accessible. |
