Procedure
- Follow the instructions inside the package of the Sea Monkey Brine Shrimp growing kit. Fill each tank to 1/2 centimeter from the top with Triton Water Ultra Pure distilled water.
- After the recommended 36-hour waiting period, place one packet of Sea Monkey eggs into each tank. Place each tank in its individually-lit box, placing the aeriation tube into the top of each tank. Set the timer to turn on both lights at 8:00AM and turn them off at 8:00PM. Set the aeriation pump to automatically aeriate both tanks for one minute at 12:00PM. Make sure both boxes are secured from recieving outside light by securing the front plastic flaps with velcro.
- Every three days, remove both tanks from their boxes. Take a sample of 10 random shrimp from each tank and place them on a round microscope slide deep enough to easily hold at least 2mL of water.
- Place the slide on the intel Qx3 computer microscope, taking special care not to spill the water. Place the microscope on its lowest setting (10x) and use the "bottom-lighting" feature. Take pictures of the 10 random shrimp from each tank.
- Measure the shrimp in the pictures using a centimeter ruler. Devide the answer by ten to get the shrimp's approximate length in hundreths of a centemeter.
Journal
Febuary 10.- Decided to being the process of this experement. Started by putting Triton Water Ultra Pure distilled water (from a jug) into each tank, leaving approximately a half-centimeter at the top. Put a packet of "Sea-Monkey" water "purifier" into each tank, stirring it by blowing into the tank with a straw for 15 seconds into each tank. Will need to wait 36 hours before adding the eggs.
Febuary 12.- Put the Shrimp eggs into the water in order for them to hatch. According to various resources, I should be able to see a couple of them in about a week. I will then begin measuring them.
Febuary 24.- Fed the monkeys for the first time, and decided to measure them every three days. Found the materials for viewing them, and got the computer microscope set up to photograph. Noticed that the few monkeys that had hatched in the blue (experemental) tank were much larger than those in the red (control) tank. Due to the limited amount of visible shrimp available, I only collected data for two shrimp from each tank. The shrimp are ten times their actual size in the pictures. For easy conversion, I will use metric measurements.

Febuary 27.- Took another measurement. I will measure 10 random monkeys from each tank from now on.
