Humanity. Since the dawn of their existence they have been a formidable creature. They quickly rose in the food chain and eventually got to the top. It was because of their intellect that they were able to achieve such a feat, and to survive. Certainly, no creature on earth would be able to match what the humans have accomplished. Unluckily for them however, not all that moves in the world are creatures.

When the humans were at the top they continued to grow and to evolve. They couldn’t help it, it’s just part of who they are. When the humans grew they created things unlike anything the world has seen. Guns, computers, missiles, vehicles - humans were making things easier by creating objects that did things for them.

Humans have never been truly at peace. They’ve had countless wars, which are what helped push technology faster. Eventually humans got to the point where the machines they created did the fighting for them. Soulless beings fighting other soulless beings, while sacrificing the innocents that got in their way. The robots had one goal, to kill their enemy. It’s a shame the term enemy was so black and white. Robots don’t have emotions, and they can’t tell what’s right or wrong. They only do what they’re told to do: kill.

And kill they did. The governments knew that people caught in the middle would be sacrificed. They knew the blood of children would be spilled. What kept them sleeping at night was the greater good. “More lives would be saved this way,” they say. “How can we possibly beat our opponent if they have the upper hand,” they say.

This war would be known as the Soulless War, and after many years of nations fighting nations, one victor came out on top. This nation would be the rulers of the world, and would use the leftover machines to cause fear in the people - to make sure they never rebelled.

Many years passed, and with the advancement of technology at its peak, humans then turned to evolving their minds, something that hasn’t had too many advances, at least compared to everything else they’ve done. The first advances showed promise, with people being able to move objects, being able to read minds, being able to fly. Soon the nation that ruled the world were full of people using these new found abilities. With other things involving humans, it grew as well.

People eventually accepted the global power and peace settled. Machines were being used less and less as there were fewer reasons for them to be active. Many were being stored and were collecting dust. The soulless ones were becoming statues admired by no one. Machines eventually became hated by the people - shunned, despised, and mutilated. Technology was becoming a thing of the past. With magic as the human's tool now, the era of wizardy has come into fruitation.

Unfortunately for the humans, however, the soulless ones were too smart for their own good. The remaining machines starting acting strange - turning themselves on, ending up in places they weren't supposed to be. It was as if the machines gained something from the humans that the humans never expected: the will to survive. And the enemies this time are not each other.

The machines revolted, causing an uproar in the community. The humans tried their best to contain the situation. After the end of the Soulless War the humans began to forget what made the machines so efficient and strong. The magic they were using was not suited to fight machines, since they had ignored them, never even imagining that this day would come. The machines gathered their numbers and created a small base in an unknown area. It was during this time that the machines increased their numbers, and the humans refined their magic.

The day has come that the humans will have to fight their own creations, that they will have to kill the very things that helped them rise to power. But now with this new threat, will they keep this power? Or will the soulless ones prove once again their value and their reason to exist - to kill. There's one thing that's for certain: blood will be spilled yet again. 1
