These Tears
by Lady of the Shadows
These tears that fill my eyes
are for the ones who died
in the World Trade Center
on this day my country cried.
These tears upon my cheeks
remember hijacked planes
crashing into buildings
and going up in flames.
These tears upon the floor
are for the children sad
who on this fateful day
lost a mom or dad.
These tears are for the firemen
who did not hesitate
to risk their lives for others
and face a dreadful fate.
These tears are for the workers
who recovered loved ones dead,
whose hearts are filled with pain
of the faces in their heads.
These tears I wipe away
keep running down my face
for all the people lost
who cannot be replaced.
These tears that I am crying
may not always be as wet
as they are this very moment,
but be sure I won't forget.
These tears are for the world
who cannot love each other
as a neighbor and a friend,
as a sister or a brother.
These tears that fill my heart
will never truly go away
each drop is for a soul
that was taken on this day.
