Remembering a Beloved Pet

Place a picture of your beloved pet(s) on your altar. If you do not have an altar, anywhere to honor his or her memory will do. Love transcends all barriers especially when the veil is thin on this night. Light one candle. I would use white, but feel free to use whatever color is special to you or reminds you of your pet. (There is no wrong way to honor someone's memory as long as it is done with love.) Then say something like this:

Even though I can no longer hold you in my arms

I still carry your memory in my heart forever.

I feel your spirit with me everyday

and this brings me great comfort and joy.

You will always be my companion in this life,

and in the next.

I know the Goddess holds you in her warm embrace

and you are happy

running,

jumping,

dancing,

and dooking up a storm in the Summerlands.

Even though I miss you everyday,

I am glad you are at peace now.

I honor the gift of having had you in my life with this prayer.

Even if it was only for a short time,

I will cherish the gift of your love forever, my friend,

until my own end

when we meet again.

Be free

and dance with joy.

So mote it be.

Let the candle burn itself out to carry your prayer to your pet.
