CABIN
There is a tiny wooden cabin
In a town called Baxter Springs,
Where my daddy and his momma
and his brothers used to sing
and his sisters gathered 'round them
and my mom and brothers, too
Lord, I wish that I could go back
and sing the songs they knew!
But as the Lord would have it,
Daddy left us long ago...
Grandma died and joined the angels,
All my aunts and uncles, too
But, the cabin's still a'standin'
On that wooded end of town.
Lord, I wish that I could go back
and see them gathered 'round!
Then one day my daddy came back
and took us far away
Left our momma cryin' bitter tears,
To find another way.
Many years went by
and Daddy died
and we were all alone
'Till we found our momma waitin'
To bring her babies home.
Yes, the little wooden cabin
In the town called Baxter Springs
Is still standin' in the woods,...alone
Where no one ever sings.
Our dear Daddy went to Heaven
With his momma and the rest,
But, I remember them in Kansas!
and those memories are the best!
There's a tiny wooden cabin.....
In a town called Baxter Springs
Where my daddy and his momma
and his brothers used to sing!
TO DAD,
Love, Gabby
