An elderly and much experienced character in the series. She was very short and used to be very pretty with big light brown eyes and curly pink hair. In the beginning, she staged a contest to determine who deserved to inherit her light wave power. Hundreds came, including Yusuke and Kuwabara whom Koenma advised to join. Yusuke won the tournament and thus she became the spirit detective's trainer and mentor. She was strict and sharp, qualities of indeed a good sensei. Genkai also joined the Ankoku Bujutsukai in disguise, wearing layers of bandages to cover her face. She did this to avoid any confrontations with any youkai who would want to finish her off outside the tournament. She was anyway, well known for her spirit light wave power which transforms her body a couple of decades younger. Before the last round began, Toguro, a former teammate and lover?, challenged her in a battle. She was killed right in front of Yusuke. Everyone mourned for her death especially her student and Kuwabara who was the last to know about her fate. Fortunately, the spirit world granted the reikai tantei's wish after winning the Ankoku Bujutsukai. She was revived. In the early stages of the Sensui mission, she created some sort of test for the Reikai Tantei in the strange house where she tasked Kido, Kaito and Yanagi ( three humans from Mushiori city who consulted with her about their special powers ) to carry out her plan. The four detectives, including Botan survived the test but she taught them a few lessons. In the last episode, she gathered all involved characters in her dojo to entrust her place with them as soon as she pass away. |
