| 1. TENSION TYPE HEADACHES -- These are the most common types of headaches which aflicts almost 2/3 of the population at some point in their lives. The symptoms are usually felt on both sides of the head. The pain is dull and persistant, varing in intensity. It is often described as a feeling of pressure, heavyness or a tightness around the head as if a belt were being tightened around the head. The frequency and duration of these headaches is so variable that they range from lasting about 30 minutes up to a week. They usually occur infrequently, but can progress to what is known as a CHRONIC condition -- meaning it lasts all day every day with sufferers enduring different intensities and can be awakened at night by them. Prevention is very important. Obviously you must first identify the cause then make life style changes in order to prevent the tension in your life or find a method that is right for you to relieve daily stress and tension. Generally tension type headaches are diagnosed as being chronic when they are present for more than 15 days per month. In this case the sufferer will notice the headache at the start of the day, and it remains as a dull ache throughout even if there is no stressors or tension present. The most common of possible causes are usually triggered by emotional or physical stress: [ IE. an argument, fatigue, prolonged reading, dehydration, sitting to long with bad posture, job stress,] Or by environmental factors such as loud noise or music. TREATMENT AND PREVENTION falls in the catagory of LIFESTYLE -- It is a must to combat the stress in your life one way is to keep fit mentally and physically, get regular sleep, exercise and eat a balanced diet. Some people find that learning specific relaxation techniques or posture improvement techniques such as yoga or meditation are effective because they teach you to relax your mind as well as your bodyespeciall during times of stress. Another method would be to take a relaxing bath or shower apply a warm or cool compress to your forehead and ly down. For more info on this you can visit my relaxation page listed in my links and contents pages. MEDICATIONS if needed for the tension type headache is with a mild over the counter analgesics ask your Doctor or Pharmacist which is best for your particular needs. If your tention headaches are diagnosed as chronic you Doctor may possibly prescribe tricyclic antidepressants which have shown to be useful in this condition and which may also be useful for any associated depression. However I must call your attention to the fact that only your physician can make this determination. | |||||||||||||||||||

The affected area may be painful when touched. The headache gets worse as the day goes on and increases in intensity when the sufferer bends forward. Frequency -- sinus headaches can occur at any time. The possible causes -- First you need to understand what the sinuses are they are airfilled spaces in the facial bones around the nose and are part of the respitory system. Sinus Headaches are one symptom of sinusitis, where your sinuses become infected or inflamed either by infection, cold, flu, or allergies. TREATMENT AND PREVENTION -- Lifestyle changes may be in order. If possible stay indoors with an even temperature -- dry over heated environments could make your temperature and nasal congestion symptoms worse. Steam inhalation maybe useful to try and clear the sinuses Medications -- ask your Doctor or pharmisist which of the over the counter medications maybe the best for you. If the symptoms persist you will need to see your Doctor for a diagnosis and a prescription of a possible antibiotic and decongestant. It is important to see your Doctor if your symptoms persist for more than a couple of days. | |||||||||||||||||||
