| I can't even remember how I stumbled upon this, but I found this web ring for blogs by people whose names start with Mel. Two pointless things that I'm passionate about: my name and the color green. So when I found this web ring, I thought, oh how cool! Although I secretly have this plan to kill off all Mels (there can be only one!!), I have to be realistic that it probably isn't going to be a very successful plan. So Plan B: if you can't beat them, join them. I love the name Melody and hate it when people call me Melanie. M.'s friend has a girlfriend named Melissa, whom he calls Mel, and both M. and I agree: there can't be two Mels, so now there is a friendly battle about which Mel is better. But really, there is NO contest there! So I've joined the web ring, "Melicious" home to blogs of Melanies, Melissa, and other Mels of the world wide web. Pretty cool, although this is my disclaimer that I do not necessarily agree with everything that these sites are supporting. But to bond with other Mels, I cannot resist. =) Are other names as passionate about their names as we are? Did you know that Mel in Portuguese means "honey?" When I was a cheerleader, there was another Melody and we were both called Mel. We had jackets with our names embroidered on them and the only way we could tell the difference was the font used for the names. In capoeira, there was another Chinese Melody. Since I was smaller, I was dubbed "Little Melody" and she was "Big Melody" which isn't very flattering. One time I saw her in the supermarket and I said to my friend, "Hey look, there's Big Melody," and he thought that sounded offensive. True, but it was so commonly used in our class that I had grown accustomed to it. She left our school before I did, but while she was still around, I would have to identify myself as Little Melody when I called other classmates. The owner of the web ring uses the nickname Smelly Melly or Smelanie. Funny...at least I know I am not the only one who is called that...actually I don't really use it for myself but other people call me that. When I got my car, I almost used SMELEE for the license plate but decided against it. Meleehead, Melee, Smelee... As I look at more of these blogs, I'm trying not to get sucked into the blogger's conformity syndrome...pictures, links, bios, info about what mood I'm in or what is in my CD player, guestbooks...other blogs are so attractive and well-designed too...oh, it's so tempting but the thing that stops me is a). I don't want to feel obligated to maintain this so much, which complies with my low maintenance personality and b). I really don't get enough readers to feel motivated to do much...besides this is all for my own health and enjoyment and not to put out stuff for the pleasure of others. I would be happy and content if others found enjoyment in my site, but I will not change it to attract more. Low maintenance and simple and truly me...absolutely melicious. |
