| It was one of those "I feel like a tourist" days in San Francisco. We finally found Baker Beach after circling around Robin Williams' neighborhood a few times, earning us a few stares from people jogging or walking their dogs. "We live here too!" Q would yell through the closed window. I don't know why everyone goes to Ocean Beach because although it's more convenient, Baker Beach is warmer, cleaner and less crowded. Then again, it's good that Baker Beach is more undiscovered. You don't have to worry about stepping on glass or sidestepping garbage when you're walking down the beach. We took a few pictures, avoiding the old man lying nearby in his underwear. Yuck. By sunset, the couples were coming out, making Q and I gag, so we hit the road. Through the Presidio, past the Palace of Fine Arts, gawking at houses in the Marina District, and finally, Fisherman's Wharf. We were going to have clam chowder in a sourdough bowl for dinner, but when Rainforest Cafe came into view, we both squealed like little girls at the thought of eating there. We had both never been there, so we were really excited. We did a little jig going down the sidewalk and entered the restaurant in awe. Trees and vines hung everywhere, animals were posed on the rocky walls..."Is this your first time here?" the host asked. "I have a great table for you ladies, right near the waterfall, with a view of the sky and the animals." Perfect. A little loud, though...so loud that during dinner, Q let out a huge loud and long burp that I didn't even think twice about. Throughout dinner, aside from the yelling so we could hear one another, we experienced a rainstorm, an angry gorilla, and an old tired-looking elephant. After dinner, we walked back down to Ghirardelli Square for dessert. We passed a woman trying to raise money for some cause and she handed us "I [heart] San Francisco" stickers. How perfect. At GS, I think we were the only non-tourists there. Everyone else had arm loads of Ghirardelli chocolate and I heard one man say "What is this? Ghirardelli?" HELLO! A night like that leaves you feeling satisfied, as if you're really taking advantage of the city you live in, whether it's San Francisco, Sacramento, or even some place like Fresno. heheh...but oftentimes, we forget about what's out there until we no longer have it. So this weekend, make it a point to enjoy something about your city. Find a reason to be proud of it and tell the world, "I [heart] my city!" |
