An astronomical and archaeological mystery, Stonehenge is one of the greatest wonders of the ancient world. The first feature on the site, around 3300 BC, was a wooden building about 100 feet long. From 2300 BC to 2000 BC, the huge, lintelled sarsen stones that we see today were erected. How the stones were moved and where they came from is still unknown (although there are plenty of scientific, paranormal and extraterrestrial theories). Traditional midsummer festivities and other pagan rituals were held there. Several ley lines intersect on the site where Stonehenge is built. The two stones standing with the one stone laying across the top is called a trilithon. There were considered gateways to other worlds by the Druids.
