Just A Thought
By Lady of the Ink
I met an old man years ago,
With a long beard as white as snow.
And kind blue eyes and a gentle smile,
The beckoned “Friend, stay awhile.”
And as I got closer I heard him say,
Words I’ll remember till my dying day.
“I have a dream to join the world,
Man and woman, boy and girl.
“To cause the uniting of all lands,
With these two, old, shaking hands.
“To prove there’s always more than seems,
And hope and love aren’t just dreams.”
Here he paused and continued not,
Merely said with a sigh, “It’s just a thought.”
Then he went on his way and I went mine,
Our meeting no more than a moment in time.
And over the years I thought of him much,
But his words’ meaning my mind couldn’t touch.
Till today I awoke with knowledge held by few,
The realization that the old man’s words were true.
For it had dawned on me that what he sought,
Was indeed just a thought.
A thought of peace, of friends, of love,
And that sweet guidance from above.
All proving we’re off to a good start,
For a perfect world is within your heart.
