ARMADEUS
I stood by your bed last night
I came to have a peep
I could see that your heart is still crying
And that you find it hard to sleep

                  I whined to you softly
As you brushed away a tear
It's me Dad ... I have not left you
I am well. I am fine. I am still here

I was close to you at breakfast
I watched you as you made the coffee
You were thinking of the many times
Your hands reached down to me

I was with you at the shops today
                Your arms were getting sore
I longed to take your parcels
I wish I could do more

I was with you at my ashes today
You stroked my picture with such care
                  I wanted to reassure you
That I am not in there

I walked with you outside the house
As you turned the security gate key
I gently put my paw on you
I smiled and said it's me

                  You looked so very tired
As you sank into a chair
I tried so hard to let you know
                 That I was standing there

You sat there very quietly, then smiled
As the tear ran down your cheek, I think you knew
In the stillness of that evening
I was very close to you

                       The day is over
I smile and watch you yawning
And say God Bless to Hawk and Ruby
I will see you both in the morning

And Dad when the time is right for you
To cross the bridge of the Great Divide
I will rush across to meet you
And we will once more stand side by side

I have so many things to show you
There is so much for you to see
But Dad please be patient, live your journey out
And then come home safely and lovinly to me .....
