The children in Miss Sutterlin's first grade suggest rules that they would like to be in place during the school year. The children then sign the rules to bind the contract. Once the rules are in place, we try our hardest to modify our behavior accordingly. Sometimes, we have a bad day and break the rules. For this we have a behavior chart in place in the classroom. Every child has a race car on the the track. When a child breaks a rule or makes a poor choice, their racecar is moved to the pit area where they just need to slow down and get a "tune-up." If they continue to have a not so good day, their racecar is put in the garage. At this point, the child will receive a note home to tell parents of their day. Of course, a new day puts their racecar back on track and the slate is clean! |
