Today fire fell out of the sky. I take this as a sign. It has made me look at this world we live in, and I am not sure that I like what I see. We live in a "modern" world. We call what brought us here "progress". But is it really? Look at what this "progress" has brought us.
Teenagers kill each other in senseless drug wars. Unless there is a tragedy, such as 9/11, people disrespect those who have sworn to protect us. Friends and families sue each other at the drop of a hat over imagined wrongs. Evil tyrants are allowed to rule with an iron fist, and our loved ones are called to war to combat them when it finally becomes intolerable. Less "advanced" peoples strive to become like their "modern" brothers, and we put pressure to change on those that choose to stay as they are.
I have had a foreboding. Just a feeling, really, but a foreboding nonetheless. I see the world as we currently know it ending. But, I do not see this as a bad thing. I see it as a cleansing almost. Perhaps what this world needs is to take a step backwards. Wipe the slate clean and start over. That is what we need to do. I think this "modern" world has gotten far too big.
Get rid of our huge, sprawling cities and our unnecessary technology. We are destroying our environment and running out of space. Technology can be helpful, but we have long ago crossed that line and have now become dependent on it and unable to fend for ourselves in many ways. Live in peace with the Earth that is our home instead of in competition with it. Lose the unneeded politicians and the obscenely wealthy. Keep our government small and the wealth in the community.
Get back to basics. Back to a time when honor meant something, when you could count on someone's word. Go back to when communities were small and close-knit and sprawl was at an absolute minimum. Back to when neighbors helped each other, and everyone worked for the betterment of the community and not against each other to see who would come out on top.
I think now we can live as our ancestors did and yet not fight amongst ourselves, for mankind has evolved and grown.
I do have a foreboding, but is also a hope. If this modern world should end in my lifetime, I welcome it. I look forward to a brave new world where man kind can live as it was meant to. In peace with each other.
