A ROSE

She dreamed she was roses, ribbons and bows
Lace and sunsets and sand in her toes
Flowers in bloom and a bright red balloon
Crystal clear water by the light of the moon
She dreamed she could fly and take it all in
But when she awoke is was as it had been

She was an old sneaker, a broken blue crayon
Dirty dishes and laundry and kids as they ran
Wrenches and oil, wires and tape
Mops and brooms, toys and a cape
She dreamed of a rose, fragile and pale
But instead to her it was all just a tale

The truth as it is, though not easy to see
Is that the person within is fragile you see
The role that she plays to hold life together
Is the mender, the cleaner, the friend and the mother
But there in her heart, which is the most safe place
She is ribbons and bows, roses and lace
