The Mage's Guild is found in the guild quarter of Rhydin. It is a large and
imposing structure, resembling a college of sorts. A single tower reaches up
to pierce the very clouds, the tallest feature of the citys skyline. The outer
walls appear to be made of marble or some other polished stone, bearing a
smooth face that only magic could craft. From the street outside the guild one
can see a tall set of gates, golden in color but crafted like the wrought iron
found in other parts of the city.
Directly behind the gates on the left is a small house for the gatekeeper,
built of smooth stone and melding seamlessly to the rest of the wall. It looks
on a wide and verdant lawn, crossed with three cobblestone paths leading to
and from other parts of the complex. The broadest of these extends from the
gates and then turns right towards the stables. Wheel ruts have been
sculpted out of it to allow for the entrance of wagons or carts. The second is
narrower and cuts from the stable path, leading to a staircase that provides
direct entrance to the guild infirmary along a side wall of the lawn. The third is
the best kept and also the most traveled of the three, leading from the gates
to the two grand oaken doors of the guild proper.
On each door a column of dull red runes gives off a faint but constant glow,
shining more brightly when one of the enchantments on the guild comes to
life. A short stair comprised of a few wide steps rises from the ground to the
doors. On each side of these steps is a podium with a Stone Golem on it.
They have never been seen to move, but some say that they can feel the eyes
of these silent sentinels upon them as they move. Each door has a ring of
similar metal to the gates hanging from it, which serve as handles to pull them
open. Oddly little force is needed to open them, there is certainly magic at
work. The guild has never been defended, however even a layperson can feel
the hint of the many enchantments laid upon the grounds.
