"SWEET THURSDAY" WINNER
CONGRATULATIONS to ---ME
Johnny Mathis Fan Club Director Maria Niemela created a message board contest challenging Mathis fans to identify a phrase from a Johnny Mathis tune and name the song. Well! It was no challenge for this fan. When I started working as a teenager, I would buy a Johnny Mathis album almost every payday. Each morning and every night I would play my Mathis albums and sing along until the LP's were practically worn out. Many of my albums were "lost" including my prized 45rpm record "Bye,Bye Barbara" and the album "The Wonderful World of Make Believe", which Johnny signed at an autograph/record promotion appearance at the department store where I worked--WIEBOLDT'S, in downtown Chicago, Illinois circa 1965-6) .
Even though it has been many years since I played the album "Johnny's Newest Hits" when Maria Niemela (aka ITSNOTFORMETOSAY) listed this stanza from a song..."PEOPLE MEET BY SOME DESIGN, PRE-ARRANGED BY LAWS DIVINE---YET, WHO IS THERE WHO CAN DEFINE JUST WHAT MYSTIC FATE COMBINED TO MAKE YOU MINE.," My musical Mathis memory wheels starting turning and lead me to my one of my favorites songs from that album, "SWEET THURSDAY. My prizes for doing what I enjoy doing more than anything in the world----listening to Johnny Mathis songs--- were two(2) photographs of Johnny Mathis---one vintage black and white glossy, and a recent autographed color "Portrait of Johnny."
