Chapter Fourteen
Erin’s apartment
“So what did Lucky
want?” Robin asked with a smile.
“He incited me to go over to
his house and watch movies.” Erin said returning the smile.
“So kinda like a date?”
“No, he’s having a party at
his house and he invited me to come along.”
“Well it’s a start,” Robin
joked. “I have to get going. I have to work today. I’ll see you latter.”
Erin walked up to her computer room and sat down. A message popped up on the screen that said
she had mail.
Erin-
Well the countdown is on. 3 days to do.
Don’t worry I’ll be there. I
might no be able to spend the whole day with you like in the past years but I
will be there.
As always,
Love Sonny
Erin smiled. She
loved it when Sonny left her little notes.
She wrote him a quick note back and read the rest of her mail. There was a note from someone she had been
playing an online game with. They would
send each other encrypted massages telling them where to go and what they had to
find. Her opponent wasn’t too good at
the encryption but she always put some kind of word game in it.
The game continues…

You will get the rest of the instructions when you
finish with that. My move is over why
you answer this question: Who is the next one to dye, the man, the daughter or
the father?
Aneleh Cass
Erin printed out the code and sat in her green room
working on it. This one was much harder then
any other that Aneleh had sent her.
Before she knew it the clock downstairs what chiming 7o’clock.
“Crap! Lucky going to be her in an
hour.” Erin jumped up and ran to her room.
She showered then changed into a soft floral dress. Erin pulled her hair
up into a French-braid and pulled some strands loose to frame her face. Erin finished
getting ready at ¼ to. She sat back down
in the green room, her heart was beating so fast she
didn’t know what to do. Erin picked a few soft white flowers and inhaled their
sweet aroma. Nothing she did calmed her
down. This was highly irregular; she
never got this worked up about anything.
There was a knock at the
door down stares just as the grandfather clock chimed 8. Erin pushed a button
on the intercom system; “I’ll be down in a sec.” Erin said. She grabbed her purse, it was the kind that
looked like a mini backpack, picked up the code from where she had left it on
the bench, stuffed it into her purse and ran down the stares.
Erin opened the door.
“Mr. Spencer is here to see you.”
Sam said in his usual gruff manner.
Lucky stood behind him obviously used to this kind of thing.
“Hi Lucky. I’m all ready
to go.” Erin said completely ignoring Sam.
“Okay, then let’s get
going.” Lucky and Erin walked into the elevator.
“So what movies are we going
to watch?” Erin asked as they got into Lucky’s car. It was a sleek black sports car. Erin wasn’t sure
what kind, she had never seen anything like it before.
“I don’t know, if Devon has any say in it we’ll be watching one of the
Scream movies but if I get to pick it’ll probably be an old silent movie.”
“A silent
movie?” Erin said surprised. “I would have
never pictured you as the type to like silent movies.”
“I love silent movies. Some of them are better then a lot of the
movies now a days.” They talked about
movies all the way to his house. They
pulled up just as Devon came up the road.
“I see that I arrived just
in time. Lucky told me this was going to
be a good party, but I never expected it to be this good.” Devon said looking strait at Erin.
“The party hasn’t even
started yet man.” Lucky knew exactly was
Devon was doing, every time he met a girl he was interested in he would flood
her with complements and charm, and if that didn’t work he would just move on
to the next girl (that had yet to happen though). Devon used the same
lines every time and some how every time the girl fell for it.
“Are you sure, I could have
sworn that I just died and went to heaven.”
“And why is that?” Erin asked. She knew exactly what he was leading to, but
she thought she would just let him have his fun before she told him there was
no chance.
“Because
this just has to be an angel standing before me.” Devon said, smooth as ice.
“I’m sorry you must be
dreaming then because it’s just Lucky and I here.”
“That’s what I mean. An angel, you.”
“Nice try, but I don’t think
so. I’m not the kind that falls for
those overused pick-up lined.” Erin smiled. Her father had taught
her how to say those kinds of things without making it sound like you were
turning then down. That way you didn’t
make any unwanted enemies.
As he had thought Devon got to pick the movie and never failing, the picked Scream. About half way through the movie Lucky
noticed that Erin was not in the living room watching the movie. In fact he hadn’t seen her for the past 20
minutes. Lucky got up and walked into
the kitchen, thinking that maybe she had gone in there. ‘No, she wasn’t in there, where could she
be?’ Lucky thought. He glanced out the window and saw Erin sitting on the back porch looking up into the night sky.
Erin had left the room after the first 20 minutes. Scream was the most boring movie she had ever
seen, it was so predictable. She knew
right after the scene with the phone that the boyfriend was the stalker. She had gone outside for a breath of fresh
air and had just stayed there. She could
hear the other girls screaming at the movie, they wouldn’t be screaming if they
had seen what she had seen and heard.
“Beautiful night, isn’t it?”
Lucky said sitting down next to her.
“Yah, it’s so peaceful
here. Nothing like LA. It’s always so loud there. I like it here.” Erin said looking
back up into the sky.
“So what are looking at?”
“I’m looking for my mother’s
wishing star.”
“Her
what?”
“Her
wishing star. When my father was away on business she would
let me stay up with her and watch the stars.
She would point up to the brightest star in the sky and we would both
make a wish. She would always wish for
safety for my father,” Erin paused.
“There it is.” She pointed
up. Lucky moved his head closer so he
could see which star she was pointing to.
“What would you wish for?”
Lucky asked. Erin turned her head and stopped.
Their faces were so close that they were almost touching. Erin quickly moved
so that they weren’t so close. She and
Lucky just sat there for a moment and looked at each other, neither knowing
what to say.
They sat in silence for a
few minutes. They could still hear the
other girls screaming from within. “Let
me guess you aren’t a big fan of horror?”
Lucky joked.
“I’ve seen to much of it in real life to want to watch it for
fun.” Erin said with a sad smile.
“Well then why don’t we go
and watch a good old-fashioned silent movie?”
Lucky asked.
“I’d love to.”
“Good. I have a TV in my room so we can watch it
there.” Lucky said getting up and
putting a hand out to help Erin up also. They
walked passed the other group of kids.
They were so engrossed in the movie that they didn’t notice Erin and Lucky go upstairs hand-in-hand.
Lucky popped the tape in his VCR and they sat down on the floor. Erin sat next to
Lucky and soon her eyes shut in peaceful sleep.
