Chapter Ten

The next morning (Wednesday)

There were blankets and pillow thrown all around the living room.  Robin and Erin were sitting in the middle of all of it laughing hysterically.  “…and then Jason drove me home on his bike.  As if things couldn’t get any worse it started to rain.  Now this was no ordinary rain it was poring nonstop.  When we finally made it back to his room at Jake’s we were both soaked to the bone.  Then…never mind we’ll not get into that.” Robin said still trying to control her laughter.

There was a loud nock.  “Come in.” Erin called out still giggling.

“Morning…Oh Robin, you’re here. Oh, Erin the police would like to talk to you about the shooting.  If you don’t want to I can tell them that you aren’t ready yet.”

“No that’s okay.  I have a doctor’s appointment in about an hour.  Tell them that I’ll go over to the station latter in the day,” Erin said as if it was no big deal.  “Jason don’t leave yet.  I have some exciting news to tell you.  It’s the reason I’m going to the doctor’s…” Erin proceeded to tell him everything that happened. “Then Robin and I ended up staying up all night talking.”

Jason stood there speechless.  The only thing he could manage was “Wow,” Jason regained the use of his voice.  When is your appointment and who is your doctor?’

“It’s at 10:00 o’clock and I’m not sure of his name.  Amy said she would get me in with the best optical doctor at GH.”

3 hours latter

“I have no clue what to say.  I’ve never seen anything like this before.  It is almost as if your brain just didn’t want to register your sight till now.” Dr. Sky said looking at the test results.

From the time she had woken up from her dream Erin had slowly been gaining her sight back.  Now she could tell light from dark and could see movement.  Everything was still blurry an all she could see was shadows but Erin had never been happier.

“That’s about all I can tell you now, but I do want you to come back tomorrow for another check up.  I want to know if anything changes.”

Erin, Jason and Robin walked out of the office.  Erin had a pair of sunglasses on because any form of light bothered her eyes.  “I have an idea.  Why don’t we go some were and celebrate?” Robin sufested.

“That sounds like a good idea.  But first we have to sop by at the police station, I still have to talk to them about yesterday.”

“Oh yes.  I forgot.” Robin said with a sigh.

“I have to run a few erons.  I’ll meet you at the station okay?” Jason said looking at his watch.

“Sure go ahead.  This way I can introduce her to Mac without him feeling uncomfortable.” Robin laughed.

Police station an hour latter

“That’s when Sam drove me home.” Erin finished.

“Thank you for coming down.  If you remember anything more don’t hesitate to call us.  Here is my card,” V. Ardanowski gave Erin her card and stood up. “Again thank you for helping.  I hope things continue to improve with your eyes.”

“Thank you.  I’ll call you if I remember anything.” Robin and Erin go up to leave just as Jason entered.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t ‘anger boy’.  Are you here for a visit or has something stuck this time?” Detective Taggert taunted.  V elbowed him in the side to shut him up.

Jason ignored him.  “Are you two ready to go?”

“Vary ready.  I’ve spent too much of my life in police stations as it is,” Jason lead the way to the door.  “Can we go somewhere kinda dark?  This light is gibing me a headache”

“We could go to Luke’s.  He keeps the light pretty low in there.”

“What kind of restaurant is Luke’s?”

“It’s a jazz/blues club.”

“Oh is that Luke Spencer?  Sonny told me all about him.  He seems like a real character.”

“That’s an understatement,” Robin joked.  “I think Luke’s is a great idea.”  They go into Jason’s can and headed off.

“How are your eyes doing?” Jason asked.

“It’s amazing.  It’s like I’m looking through a for that is slowly melting away.  Before too long I’ll be able to see with no problem.”

At Luke’s

Luke Spencer stood behind the bar putting a few thing away.  Ii was always slow at lunch, but today it was dead.  “Hey Cowboy.”

Lucky groaned at hearing his nickname.  “Dad, I invited some friends to play pool.  This is Mark,” Lucky said pointing to a tall gangly boy with pale hair, pale eyes, and pale skin.  “This is Tom,” a short chubby boy with long shaggy hair.  “And this is Devon,” a tall good looking young man.  “Everyone this is my father.”

“Hello Mr. Spencer.” Devon said with a smile.

“Call me Luke, please.  Mr. Spencer makes me sound old.

“Whatever you say Luke.” Devon said respectively.

“Lucky remember, no drinks in the pool room.  Okay?”

“Yah, sure.  Whatever you say.”

Lucky and his friends walked back into the back room just as Jason, Robin and Erin arrived.  “Hey Jason,” Luke greeted his business partner. “Robin nice to see you.”

Jason introduced Luke to Erin. “Luke this is Charlie Brown’s daughter, Erin.”

“I knew your father when he worked for Sonny, but I don’t remember ever meeting you.  Jason I have to do some things in my office.  You have the run of the joint for now.”

“Okay,” Luke walked into his office.  “Why don’t we sit over here?”

They sat down and looked at the menu.  Without thinking Erin picked up on of the menus and looked at it.  After a few moments Erin realized what she was doing and laughed.

“What are you laughing at?”

“I just realized what I was doing.  I’m reading.  I haven’t done that for almost 6 years and I just picked up the menu and started reading without even thinking.”

“Just like a bike once you learn you never forget.” Robin commented.

Erin put down her menu and looked around.  “Whoever did the decorating in here should be shot.  Some of the stuff in here is tacky.”

“You should tell that to Luke.  He picked out each and every painting here.  I don’t understand his fascination with crazy painting but for some reason he likes this kind of stuff.” Jason said shaking his head.

The waiter walked up to the table.  “Have you decided what you want?  Or would you like some more time?” the waiter asked.

“I don’t know why I even bother looking at the menu, I’m just going to have the same thing I always do.  I’ll have the chicken salad.” Robin told the waiter.

Jason and Erin both ordered their meals and the waiter left.

Lucky and his friends came out of the poolroom and sat at the bar.  They were talking and laughing loudly.  “We did not loose to you two.  You cheated.” Mark said defensively.

“We didn’t cheat.  Lucky and I are just better then you two.” Devon joked.
