Chapter Seven

The next morning (Tuesday)

Jason picked up the phone and dialed Robin’s number.

“Hello?”

“Hi Robin.”

“Wow, you’re up early.”  Robin said delighted to hear Jason’s voice.

“Yah well I couldn’t sleep last night.  Remember that girl Erin?”

“Yes, you told me about her yesterday at breakfast.”

“Well someone broke into her apartment last night.  They broke the lock on the window in the study.  I still haven’t figured out why the alarm didn’t go off”

“Oh my god!  Is she okay?  What happened?”

“She woke up and there was someone in her bedroom, so she came to me and stayed in one of the spare room.  Shi is okay now but she’s still a little shaken up.”

“I would be too.  Is there anything I can do?”

“That was one of the reasons I called I wanted to know if you would mind me bringing her with us when we went to lunch.  I don’t think she want’s to stay inside anymore then she has to.”

“Of course I don’t mind.  I’d love to meet this girl.  Oh speaking of lunch it was wondering if we could change the time to 12:30.  I have a doctor’s appointment at 12.”

“No problem.  What’s the doctor’s appointment for?  I thought you just went in a week ago.”

“I did.  Alan just want’s to talk to me about some new treatment.  I’ll fill you in on all the details at lunch, okay?”

“Okay.  Why don’t I just pick you up from the hospital so we can go strait to lunch?”

“Sounds good to me, see you then.  I love you,” Robin added lovingly.

“I love you too, bye.”

Robin hung up her phone.  For the fist time in her life everything seemed to be going perfect for her.  Things had been getting better and better ever sense her and Jason had gotten back together that summer, and to top everything off there had been a new breakthrough in the cure of HIV.  In fact that was the reason for her appointment with Dr. Quortermain.  She hadn’t told Jason about the new treatment yet, but knowing him he probably already knew about it and just didn’t say anything.  If this cure for HIV worked then she could stop the cocktail drug treatment and most important to her, her and Jason could move to a more serious relationship and maybe one day…She stopped herself before she let herself think of what could happen.  She had to keep her eye on today and not tomorrow.

Jason hung up the phone and turned to look out the window.  He wondered if the new treatment that Robin had been talking about was the new cure he had heard about.  Jason knew how much Robin hated him keeping tabs on her HIV but he couldn’t help it.  It there was any chance that she could live a normal life then he wanted her to have that chance.  Not all his reasons were that unselfish he thought to himself, he knew that Robin would never agree to marry him unless she knew that they had nothing to worry about and if this cure really did work then maybe, just maybe…

Erin walked into the room she could sense that Jason was there.  “What time is it?”

Jason was a little started by Erin’s voice but didn’t show it.  “Just about 10 o’clock.”

Wow Erin thought.  She hadn’t slept that long in a long time, in a matter of-fact she hadn’t slept well in almost 6 years.  There was something comforting to know that Jason was near by.  He had a calming affect on her just like Sonny did.  There were a lot of similarities between Jason and Sonny.

Erin, I’m going to meet a friend for lunch.  Would you like to join us?”  Jason asked casually.

“I have classes with my tutor in a few minutes.  What time were you going to go?”

“We were going to meet around 12:25 at GH.”

“GH what is that?”

“Oh, General Hospital.  She has a doctor’s appointment and I was going to pick her up.”

“I can be done with two of my classes by 12 and I can pick up the rest tomorrow.”

Just then there was a nock at the door.  “Sir. Miss Carelson is here to see Miss Brown” Renaldo  said letting in Carrie.

Erin, Sam said there was a problem last night.  What happened and why didn’t you call me?”  Carrie asked worriedly.

“Oh, I’m sorry.  Things got so mixed up last night.  I’ll tall you all about it during lessons.”  Carrie and Erin walked out of Jason’s apartment talking.

Jason stood amazed at how Erin avoided answering Miss Carelson’s questions.

General Hospital 12 o’clock

“Mr. Quartermaine will see you now.” The secretary said to Robin.

“Thank you,” Robin entered Alan’s office.  Alan Quartermaine sat behind his desk looking over some papers.

“Ahh, Robin.  I’m so glad you could meet with me at such short notice.  A doctor form Switzerland who has developed a new cure for HIV recently contacted me.  It has a 85% success rate and no major side effects.  Excuse me I’m getting a head of myself.  As you can see I’m excited about this.”

“That’s quite alright.  Dr. Quartermaine.”

“Now how many times have I told you, you can call me Alan?” he asked affectionately.

“Okay Alan.  I understand how excited you are.  I’m excited to hear about it to.”

“Yes of course you are.  Now with your past history with the cocktail it makes you a perfect candidate for this new treatment.  It is somewhat like the cocktail with regards to the amount of drugs you will be taking but it is a different combination of drugs.”  Alan went into detail about all the drugs and gave her the names and everything she needed to know about them.  “Now I’m sure you will want some time to think about this.  Just get back to me when you have decided what you want to do, okay?”

“Okay, I’ll get back to you very soon.” Robin said suppressing a smile.  She would probably be talking to him tomorrow or the next day.

“Off of the subject of the medicine, how is Jason?” Alan asked.  No matter how he tried to let go, he could never forget the man that had once been his son.

“He is doing fine,” Robin answered distantly.  She knew how much Jason hated it when Alan asked about him.  “I have to get going.  I’m just about to go meet him for lunch.  Thank you for the information.  I’ll be talking to you soon.”

“Bye Robin.” Alan watched as Robin disappeared out the door.  He had to smile to himself.  His son had one of the best women in town.  He said a silent prayer that the new treatment would indeed be a cure for Robin.

Jason and Erin got off the elevator.  Jason spotted Amy involved in her favorite hobby, gossip.

“Oh, hi Jason!  What brings you here?”

“I’m picking up Robin,” Jason had become accustom to Amy’s talkativeness and humored her.

“And who is this?” Amy asked skeptically of Erin.

“Amy this is Erin.  I’m doing a favor for her father and showing her around town.”

“You look vaguely familiar.  Are you new in town?”

“I recognize you too.  I never forget a voice.  I lived here about six years ago.” Erin turned to face Amy.  It was then that Amy realized that she was blind.

“Those eyes!  How could I ever forget those eyes.  You are Erin Brown aren’t you?  I’m Amy I was your nurse when you were in here.  How are you doing?” Amy asked putting down the papers that had been in her hands.  Jason knew that when she did that she was going to be talking for a wile.

Erin will you be okay her for a few minutes while I go look for Robin?”

“Oh she’ll be fine.  I’ll keep an eye on her.” Amy answered for Erin.

“I’ll be fine,” Erin said.  She remembered Amy was the one that had told her that there was a possibility that she could one day regain her sight.  That was the only thing that had kept her from killing herself many times.

“Okay, I’ll be right back.”  Jason walked off in the direction of Dr. Quortermain’s office.

“So I guess there has been no change in your condition sense you were last here, has there?” Amy asked.  She had gotten to know Erin while she was in recovery form the accident 6 years earlier.

“No, no change.”

“I’m so sorry to hear that.  Did they ever figure out what made you go blind?”

“No, it’s still a mystery.”

Jason and Robin arrived at the nurse’s station just when Amy got a call and had to go see a patent.  “You keep in touch okay?”  Amy called as she hurried off.

“I’m back.  Erin, this is Robin.  Robin, this is Erin Brown.”

“Nice to meet you Erin.”

“Likewise.”  Erin said

The Outback

Jason, Robin, and Erin all sat around a table talking.  They all talked freely on any subject that came up.  Robin asked Erin about where she grew up and how she knew Sonny.  Robin talked freely to Erin about her HIV and about all the medication she was on and Erin told her about how none of the doctors she had gone to could find anything wrong with her eyes.  Jason just sat back and watched the two of them talking.  This was the most he had ever heard Erin talk sense she had arrived in Port Charles.  After lunch they headed back to Jason’s penthouse.  After they arrived Erin excused herself because she had to get back to her lessons.

Erin and Carrie sat on the docks (with two of Jason’s men near by) finishing up the last of Erin’s math homework.  All during the lesson Erin had been unusually talkative.

“You’re going to have to spend more afternoons with Jason.” Carrie joked.

“What do you mean?”

“I haven’t heard you talk this much sense you got back from your vacation in Portereco a year ago.”

“I haven’t had a reason to talk sense then.” Erin joked.  They sat talking for a few more minutes until all of a sudden Erin froze.

“What’s the matter?”

“He is here,” Erin whispered.

“Who is?” Carrie asked looking around.

“The man from my room.  The one that broke into my apartment.”  Erin hissed.  Just when she had said that a gun shot rang out…
