Chapter Six
On the docks
“Now that your father isn’t
always hovering over us you can call me Carrie.”
“Okay, Carrie.” They walked for a few more minuets. “Carrie, is the sun setting?”
“Yes it is.”
“What does it look
like? What are the colors?”
“Well right along the
horizon it is bright yellow, then it fades into a deep
red, then purple, and finally blue. The
higher you look the darker the blue gets.
The first star should come out soon.
Which means that we should be heading back.”
“Can we just sit on the dock
for a minute? I want to listen to the
water a few minutes longer.”
“Okay but not much longer,
it’s getting late.”
“I don’t know, this doesn’t seem to be the safest place for two women to
hang around for too long.”
“No need to worry. Jason has some on his body guards following
us.”
“How do you know that?”
“One I can hear them, and
second I recognize their calone. I
memorized who weirs what. I scared one
guy buy calling to him by name before he even said any thing. It freaked him out pretty bad.”
“You shouldn’t do that. They are there to protect you not for you to
scare.”
“I know that but it was
funny at the time.”
“The guys that are tailing
us now are Sam, Mick, and I don’t know the third one’s name, he’s new.”
“Okay let’s get going back.”
Back at
“Thanx for
the walk.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow at
“Sure. But I doubt that I will need to.”
“Alright,
goodnight.”
“Goodnight Carrie.”
“Yes Miss Brown?” Sam was a little surprised to see her out of
her apartment so late at night. “Is
something wrong?’
“Is Jason still awake?”
“I think he is. He just got in a few minutes ago,”
“Thanx,”
Jason was heading up to bed,
“Is there something wring?” Jason could
tell
“Did you have someone
stationed in my room?’
“No, I only stationed people
outside the door of the apartment. Why
was there someone in your room?” There
was no reason for him to have to ask. He
already knew by the was she asked the question that
there had been someone in her room.
“Yes, there was someone in
my room. Why would I ask if there wasn’t
someone in my room.
I thought this place was going to be safe? How can it be safe is someone can just walk
into my room when ever they want to?”
“Okay I’ll send someone to
go check out your room.”
“I’m not staying in there
tonight. There is no way that I’m going
to stay in that room when someone can just walk in there when ever they want
to.”
“Calm down
“Fine.”
“But will you come with me
when I go and get my things? I don’t
want to go into that place by myself.”
“Okay I’ll go with
you.”
“If you don’t mind me asking
how did you loosed your eyes sight. The only reason I ask is because you talk
like you haven’t always been blind.”
“No I don’t mind you
asking. That’s true. I haven’t always been blind. I lost my eyesight in a car accident. I guess that you know that my father once
worked for Sonny. My dad was a messenger
for him. Normally Sonny didn’t employ
people with families but my mother and father divorced when I was five and I
only got to see him a few times a year.
My father had the day off for my 10th birthday and he was
taking me to the docks because that was my favorite place to go when I was
visiting him. We were just pulling up
when I saw Sonny. I had met him a few
times and I liked him. I pointed out to
my dad that he was there too. Then I
looked across the street and I saw a black car speeding towards Sonny, my dad
saw it too. Immediately his instincts
kicked in and he pulled in front of Sonny just in time to keep the other car
form hitting him. The other car was
going about 60 and we were in a little sports car. The car hit us on the passenger side. Well I was sitting in the passenger
side. O was just pretty bad. My dad pulled me out of the car and Sonny
came running over to me. Sonny stayed
with me as my father went to get help. I
had my sight for a few moments after the accident. The last thing I ever saw
was Sonny’s face leaning over me. He
kept telling me that I was going to be fine.
Ever sense then Sonny has been almost a second father to me.”
“Sonny always did have a
soft spot for kids.” Jason said
remembering the stories he had heard about Stone. “You look like you need to sleep. I’ll leave and let you get some rest.” Jason left the room and
