Chapter Six

On the docks

“Now that your father isn’t always hovering over us you can call me Carrie.”

“Okay, Carrie.”  They walked for a few more minuets.  “Carrie, is the sun setting?”

“Yes it is.”

“What does it look like?  What are the colors?”

“Well right along the horizon it is bright yellow, then it fades into a deep red, then purple, and finally blue.  The higher you look the darker the blue gets.  The first star should come out soon.  Which means that we should be heading back.

“Can we just sit on the dock for a minute?  I want to listen to the water a few minutes longer.”

“Okay but not much longer, it’s getting late.”

Erin made her way carefully to the side of the dock and sat down with her legs hanging over.  “Carrie, tomorrow can we have the lessons here, on the docks?”

“I don’t know, this doesn’t seem to be the safest place for two women to hang around for too long.”

“No need to worry.  Jason has some on his body guards following us.”

“How do you know that?”

“One I can hear them, and second I recognize their calone.  I memorized who weirs what.  I scared one guy buy calling to him by name before he even said any thing.  It freaked him out pretty bad.”

“You shouldn’t do that.  They are there to protect you not for you to scare.”

“I know that but it was funny at the time.”

“The guys that are tailing us now are Sam, Mick, and I don’t know the third one’s name, he’s new.”

“Okay let’s get going back.”

Back at Erin’s penthouse apartment

“Thanx for the walk.” Erin said after Carrie had told her it was time for her to go.

“I’ll see you tomorrow at 10 o’clock.  Oh, here is my room number if you need to call me, okay?”

“Sure.  But I doubt that I will need to.”

“Alright, goodnight.”

“Goodnight Carrie.”  Erin shut the door and walked up to her room.  It had been a long day.  As soon as her head hit the pillow she felt extremely tired. Just as she was drifting off to sleep she was jolted wide-awake.  There was someone else in her room.  It wasn’t having someone in her room the scared her, what scared her was that she didn’t know who it was.  She quickly got out of bed and made a mental note of where he was standing she could tell it was a man because oh his cologne).  Erin tried to act normal so not to let the man know that she was aware of his presence in her room.  She got down the stares and ran to the door.  “Sam?” Erin asked as she opened the door.

“Yes Miss Brown?”  Sam was a little surprised to see her out of her apartment so late at night.  “Is something wrong?’

“Is Jason still awake?”

“I think he is.  He just got in a few minutes ago,”

“Thanx,” Erin ran across the hall to Jason’s penthouse apartment.  Erin entered his apartment just as

Jason was heading up to bed, “Is there something wring?”  Jason could tell Erin was upset, and this worried him.

“Did you have someone stationed in my room?’

“No, I only stationed people outside the door of the apartment.  Why was there someone in your room?”  There was no reason for him to have to ask.  He already knew by the was she asked the question that there had been someone in her room.

“Yes, there was someone in my room.  Why would I ask if there wasn’t someone in my room.  I thought this place was going to be safe?  How can it be safe is someone can just walk into my room when ever they want to?”  Erin was showing just how upset she was.

“Okay I’ll send someone to go check out your room.”

“I’m not staying in there tonight.  There is no way that I’m going to stay in that room when someone can just walk in there when ever they want to.”  Erin yelled.

“Calm down Erin.  You don’t have to stay in there if you don’t feel safe.  We will go and get some of your stuff and you can stay in one of the spare rooms here tonight.  Then tomorrow I’ll have someone find out how that person got into your room.  And then I’ll have it taken care of okay?”

“Fine.” Erin said getting control of herself.

“But will you come with me when I go and get my things?  I don’t want to go into that place by myself.”

“Okay I’ll go with you.”

Erin led the way to her room and gathered her things.  She didn’t like the idea of someone being able to get into her room without anyone knowing.  She gathered her things as quickly as she could. Jason showed her which room she could stay in.  “I hope you don’t think I’m a wimp for not wanting to stay in that room.  It’s just I don’t like the feeling of someone in my room and me not being able to see them.  It would be one think if I could see what was going on but now that I can’t see it makes me a little nervous.”

“If you don’t mind me asking how did you loosed your eyes sight.  The only reason I ask is because you talk like you haven’t always been blind.”

“No I don’t mind you asking.  That’s true.  I haven’t always been blind.  I lost my eyesight in a car accident.  I guess that you know that my father once worked for Sonny.  My dad was a messenger for him.  Normally Sonny didn’t employ people with families but my mother and father divorced when I was five and I only got to see him a few times a year.  My father had the day off for my 10th birthday and he was taking me to the docks because that was my favorite place to go when I was visiting him.  We were just pulling up when I saw Sonny.  I had met him a few times and I liked him.  I pointed out to my dad that he was there too.  Then I looked across the street and I saw a black car speeding towards Sonny, my dad saw it too.  Immediately his instincts kicked in and he pulled in front of Sonny just in time to keep the other car form hitting him.  The other car was going about 60 and we were in a little sports car.  The car hit us on the passenger side.  Well I was sitting in the passenger side.  O was just pretty bad.  My dad pulled me out of the car and Sonny came running over to me.  Sonny stayed with me as my father went to get help.  I had my sight for a few moments after the accident. The last thing I ever saw was Sonny’s face leaning over me.  He kept telling me that I was going to be fine.  Ever sense then Sonny has been almost a second father to me.” Erin ended with a sad smile.

“Sonny always did have a soft spot for kids.”  Jason said remembering the stories he had heard about Stone.  “You look like you need to sleep.  I’ll leave and let you get some rest.”  Jason left the room and Erin fell fast asleep.   After Jason left Erin’s room he went into her apartment and looked around.  He walked through each and ever room to try to find the way that the intruder got in.  When he got to the study he noticed that the lock on the window had been broken.
