Chapter Five

Kate woke up and took a moment to remember that she had only been dreaming.  She signed and wished that they were back at Sweetheart, rather then trapped in some room and not knowing why.  But then she smiled at the feeling of Robby’s arms holding onto her protectively.  She could hear his breathing soft and even.  She sighed and leaned her head back against his chest and listened to the sound of his heart beating.  She could make it through t anything as long as Robby was with her.

“Did you sleep well?”

Kate looked up and saw Robby smiling down at her.  “I thought you were asleep.  How long have you been awake?”

“Not long.  You didn’t answer my question,” Robby playfully pointed out.

“I haven’t slept that good in ages.  I think that last time I slept that well was sweetheart.”  Kate’s mind was still focused on the wonderful memory that she had relived in her dream.

“That was a fun night, wasn’t it?  I think the best part was the party afterwards at Meime’s.”  Robby said pulling his arm a little tighter around Kate’s delicate little body.

“Yah, I don’t think I’ve ever has so much fun playing twister before.”  Kate said with a laugh.

“And not toe mention the game of truth or dare, I think that had to be one of the most revealing one’s I’ve ever played.”  Robby laughed when he remembered the look on Kate’s face when she was asked about her crush.  She had escaped answering by taking a dare.

Kate opened her mouth to say something, but she never got the chance.  Just then the heavy metal door swung open.

Both Robby and Kate jumped to their feet and in the process Robby pushed Kate behind himself.  He was ready and willing to use his body as a shield if it came down to that.

The burley man that stood in the door didn’t say anything but he nodded to someone unseen and two more men his same size entered the room.  Kate instantly gripped Robby’s arm and backed away pulling him with her as the two men advanced in their direction.

“Now, now, now, none of that.  You’re coming with us Maggie, your Papa would like to have a talk with you.”  The first man said the a surpresed, amused laugh.

“I don’t know what you are talking about but she’s not going anywhere with you.”  Robby said trying to sound as authoritative as possible under the circumstances.

Without missing a beat the man continued without even looking at Robby.  “Where’d you pick up this one?  Last time it was some blond Auzzie, and before that some annoying Britt, and an American.  Well at least you’re picked someone your age.  You know the routine, we can do it the easy way and you can all off you latest boy-toy, or we can.”

Kate looked at Robby confused.  Th fear in her eyes was masked but Robby could tell it was there.  He was amazed by the strength he saw in her.  She leaned in and whispered low into his ear.  “Just follow my lead.”  In a blink of an eye he saw her put on a persona of confidence.  “Okay, let’s got have that talk.”  She said addressing the man who had been talking, for the first time.  She successfully copied the man’s accent, but only lightly allowed it in her voice.

“Now that’s more like it.”  He stepped aside to allow her passage out of the room.  Kate took hold of Robby’s hand and pulled him along behind her.

“Hold it,”  The man blocked her way with his arm.  “You’re gonna have ta leave your boy-toy here.”  The man glared at Robby.

“Too bad, he’s coming with me.  WE have something to tell Papa.”  Kate decided that she wasn’t going to allow this man to bully her.

From behind them Robby could hear one of the men whisper to the other, “Aw shit, all hell’s gonna break loose this time.”

“Miss Maggi, what have ya gone and done?”  The leader looked a little worried.

“That’s between us and Papa.  Now lead the way!”  Kate added with a little attitude, her expression was just daring him to defy her.

“I’d say it’s good to have you back, but,” the leader began.

“But you would be lying.  Now stop stalling and lead the way!”  Kate finished for him.

The man nodded and led the way down a dark hall to a large wooden door.  “Kate, what are you doing?”  Robby hissed into her ear.

“I don’t know, but just follow my lead.  I’m kinda making thus up as I go.”  The man opened the large door and Kate had to squint into the blinding light that flooded them.  They entered into a lavishly furnished manchion.
