Silent Rock

I spent these years building up my layers,

Perfecting my masks.

I worked so hard at protecting myself.

But in one solitary moment you broke through

to the heart of my problems

to the core of my soul.

Your quiet comfort is my rock.

I have never known someone who could do that.

When you ask what’s wrong, you listen,

Not because that’s what is expected of you

But simply because you want to and because you care.

People who have known me for a long time, listen quietly and nod at all the right times, and say that they’re sorry I’m having a hard time.

You listen, and then rather then give me the over used “I’m so sorry” look, you offer support and guidance, you try and help.

The simple way you hug me or take my hand, helps me through my day.
