Chapter 35

Robin and Erin pulled themselves out of the hole in the ground and dusted themselves off.  It was already somewhere around 11 and pitch black.  What little light the moon would have given off was covered by some clouds that had rolled in wile they had been making their underground escape.

“Let’s just hope my rental car is still where I hid it when I first came looking for you.”  Robin and Erin found their way to the road and started in the direction where Robin had left her car the night before.  After about a mile they found the spot.  “We’re in luck, it’s still here.  Come on, let’s get going before we are seen.”  Robin pulled out the keys and they jumped in the car.  Robin pulled out slowly so she wouldn’t attract any unwanted attention of any passing motorist.

After they were miles away from Delgoto’s estate Erin allowed herself a long sigh of relief.  “We’re free, aren’t we?”

Robin looked over at Erin in the passenger seat.  “Yes we are.”

Jason stopped in the hallway when he heard a beep from his watch.  He read the message from Sonny and turned around to find Jax.  It wasn’t hard; Jax was already weighting for him and Sonny where they had planed on meeting.  Jason filled him in on what little he knew and they headed back out.  It took them a little longer to get past the guards going out then it had going in but they made it out without alerting anyone.  They found Sonny weighting for them with Charlie and Ally.

Sonny looked over to Ally, “Why don’t you come with us?  It might be safer.”

“I wish I could but I can’t.  I’m just glad I could help you.  Tell Mrs. Morgan and Miss Brown that anything they can do would be wonderful, they’ll know what I mean.”  With that Ally disappeared back into the hidden passageway.

“We better get moving before some notices Charlie missing.”  The four men pilled into the hidden car and drove them along.  Charlie told them everything from the accident until recently.

“It sounds almost too bizarre to believe.”  Jax commented from the back seat.

“Well believe it.  By they way, who are you?  I don’t mean to be rude, but I know Jason and Sonny but I don’t know you.”  Charlie asked.

“Oh, sorry, I’m Jax; a fried of Erin’s.  You know you have a wonderful daughter.”

“Yes, Erin is a very special girl.”  Sonny and Charlie shared a look and they drove on in silence.

Robin pulled up outside of the rented house.  There were lights shinning through the windows.  “Looks like they are still here.  Let’s sneak in and surprise them.”  Robin said with a misgevious smile.  There was no answer next to her and she looked at Erin, she was fast asleep.  Robin thought to herself that it was a shame to wake her up, after all Erin deserved some restful sleep, but there was no way that Robin could carry her to the house without waking her up.  Erin, time to wake up, we’re here.”  Robin softly nudged Erin.

Erin yawned and stretched tiredly.  “Do I have to?”  Erin whined still half asleep.

“Come on, you can sleep all you want inside.”  Robin unbuckled Erin’s seatbelt and gave her arm a gentle but firm tug.  Erin obeyed and pulled herself up out of the passenger seat.  They walked up the path and opened up the front door.

Before Erin knew what was happening she was scooped up into someone’s strong arm and pulled into a tight hug.  She heard the labored breathing of someone trying to speak but being too overcome with emotion to get any words out.

When at last he could speak Erin heard a voice that she would know anywhere.  “Thank God.”  Nikolas pulled back and just looked at Erin.  He couldn’t believe that she was back in his arms.  He pulled Erin back to him with a loving kiss.

Erin recovered from her sleepiness the moment she had heard his voice.  She couldn’t believe how much she had missed Nikolas.  She had thought that she would never see him again so she had made herself not dwell on every memory of him that she had.  When they had pulled back from their kiss Erin had tears running down her face.  Nikolas wiped them away as new ones fell.  “I missed you too.”  Was all she could get out before her voice was choked with emotion.

Robin stood back and watched the reunion, she could see that their love was real, just by the way that they looked at each other and didn’t have to say anything; they already knew what each other was thinking.  She looked around the room but found that the only other people that were there was Lucky, Liz and Luke, and all three of them were fast asleep.  Where was everyone else?  She wondered.

“I was so worried that I would never see you again, what happened?”  Nikolas ran his fingers through Erin’s hair as if he hadn’t touched her in years.

All of a sudden Erin was feeling her lack of sleep again.  “Can I tell you tomorrow?  Right now, all I want to do is sleep.”  Erin asked trying to surpass a yawn.

“Of coarse.”  Nikolas led her over to where a mattress was laying on the floor with some blankets on top of it.  They laid down together and in moments they were fast asleep in each other’s arms.

Robin stood at the window and looked out at the night sky.  The only sound was the sound of the two couples sleeping peacefully.  Robin slipped out the door and sat down on the porch steps, she wondered what was keeping the guys so long.  A few minuets after she had sat down she heard the sound of a car coming down the country road.  She looked up and watched the driveway, the sound of car doors slamming and feet on gravel were next to be heard.

Robin saw four figures walking in the darkness toward the cottage, one of the figures was supporting another, as if he didn’t have the strength to walk on his own.  As they got closer Robin could make out who they were, Jax was walking just a little bit behind everyone else, Sonny and Jason were walking side by side but Robin couldn’t identify the person that Sonny was supporting.

Robin forgot completely about the unknown person as soon as she saw Jason.  She ran from the porch into his weighting arms.  Neither of them said any thing they just held onto each other not wanting to let go.  With everything that had happened Robin came to the realization of how much she needed Jason, her and Jason had been apart before, but those times she had always known, deep in her heart, that they wouldn’t stay apart forever.  While sitting on the porch she realized just how close they had come to loosing each other, and the thought of never seeing his face, of never feeling his arms around her, made her stomach tighten into a knot.

Jason held Robin close; he could feel the fear and anxiety in her.  They had come within inches of loosing each other.  It had happened before, more times then he wanted to remember, but once again they had found their way back to each other, and that was all that mattered at the moment.

Sonny paused a moment to watch to the reunion between husband and wife.  His mind flickered with the thought of wondering what Erin’s response would be to the news he and Charlie had to tell her.  He wondered if it was even a good idea to tell her.  For all his talk about how she would understand, he really didn’t know.  He started moving forward towards the cabin helping Charlie along the way.  He could hear Charlie’s breathing becoming more and more forced, as if breathing had become a task that was quickly becoming too difficult for him.
