Chapter 31

Erin awoke to Robin standing above her.  She was about to say something, but Robin gave her one of her looks that said “Shh”.  Erin got the hint and didn’t say anything.  Robin walked into the bathroom with Erin and closed the door behind her.

“What was that all about?”  Erin asked quietly.

“There was someone else in the room and I didn’t walk to take the chance that you would call me Robin.”

“That was smart, that was what I was going to do.  What’s going on?”

“I heard some of the servants saying that today was the day you were going t meat the mystery man.  I don’t know who it is but it sounds like some one important.”  Robin saw Erin stiffen up.  “But don’t worry, Jason’s working on a way to get us out of here.”  Robin squeezed Erin’s shoulder and gave her a reassuring smile.

“How do you know?”

“Because he was here last night.”  Robin gave Erin a playful smile.  “I’ll tell you all about it later, we don’t want anyone to get suspicious.”  They left the bathroom and found Ally waiting for them.

“Mr. Delgoto would like for Ms. Brown to join him down in the library in ten minuets.”

“What does he want?”  Robin asked gently.

Ally licked her lips nervously and glanced at the door.  “I’m not quite sure.  But if what I’ve heard is true, then you better find a way out of here before sunset.  I don’t know what’s going to happen but it isn’t going to be good.”

“Can you tell us who this mystery person is that Erin is going to meet?”  Robin asked, keeping her voice soothing and soft.

“I don’t know that either but I do know he’s been here for almost a year.  Mr. Delgoto has had doctors working on him the whole time he was in some kind of accident or fire so he’s mostly covered in bandages.  I get sick when I’m around stuff like that so Mr. Delgoto doesn’t have me wait on him.  I’ve heard talk that he’s someone important from LA.”  Ally looked back at the door nervously.  She was taking a big chance telling them, not just with her life but with the life of her family.

“Is there anything else you can remember?  Do you know anything about Delgoto that is important?”  Robin asked.

Erin stepped up and laid a hand on Ally’s arm.  “Do you know anything about his mother?”  Robin looked at Erin confused.

“It’s funny that you would ask about that.  I was her personal servant for many years whenever she would visit.  She died last year, not too long after the American showed up.  I didn’t like her, she was always trying to control what was going on around here.”  Ally said making a face is distaste.

“Do you know if her first name was Helena?” Erin asked.

Ally looked at Erin confused.  “Why yes, how did you know?”

Robin looked between the two girls in shock.  It was quite possible that Helena had another child.  Erin looked at Robin and explained.  “I saw a picture down in the basement and it was of Helena with an inscription on the back from ‘Mother’.”

“I’d like to tell you more, but if you don’t get down to the library Mr. Delgoto with send someone else after you.”  Ally said giving the door another look.

“Okay.”  Erin slipped out the door leaving Robin to talk to Ally alone.

“Ally, have you thought about what we talked about last night?”  Robin asked sitting down on one of the velvet chairs and motioning for Ally to do the same.

Ally sat down and looked at her hands folded in her lap.  “Yes I have.”  Her voice was barely audible.

“Will you help us?”

Nikolas looked down the crowded streets and sighed.  Luke had given him and Lucky a list of things that they needed to get in order for the plan to work but once they had hit the streets Lucky had disappeared into the crowd.  Every once and a wile he would show up with some of the harder items to find, Nikolas had no idea how he did it but was glad that he could.

Lucky popped up again out of a darken ally.  “Okay we’ve got everything.  We should be heading back to the house, they should be finished with their work by now.”

“What are they doing anyway?”  Nikolas asked falling in behind Lucky as they made their way though the crowd.

“I’m not sure but knowing them tonight is going to be interesting.  I hope you got enough sleep last night.”

“Not a wink.  I get my mind off the idea that Erin is begin held against her will by some psycho.”  Nikolas shook his head.

“Then you wouldn’t like what I heard while I was out getting this stuff.”  Lucky teased.  He knew that as soon as he said that, Nikolas would hound him until he was told.

“What did you find out?”  Nikolas took hold of Lucky’s shoulder when they reached an open aria.

Lucky turned around and gave him a funny look.  “I found out that your family is even crazier then even I thought.”  Nikolas looked at him impatiently weighting for an answer.  “I found another lost limb of your family tree.  If the person who told me is well informed then it seems that you have another uncle.”

“What?”  Nikolas asked in disbelief.  His face when from shock to understanding.  Delgoto?”  Lucky shook his head affirmative.  “Another one of my grandfather’s other children.”  Nikolas was disappointed in his family.  It seemed that there were more illegitimate family members then legitimate.  He was beginning to wonder if anyone in his family even could stay with one person their whole lives or were they cursed to always wonder from person to person never being happy.

“Earth to Nikolas!”  Lucky asked shaking his head.

“Huh?”  Lucky said snapping out of his little world.

“You seemed to be a million miles away.  Anyway I said that he isn’t your grandfather’s.”  Nikolas cocked his head to the side and looked at Lucky quizzically.  “For once it wasn’t Meakose who had a ‘special friend’ Helena had another son that he didn’t know about.”

“I think this is something that Sonny and Jason should know about.”  Nikolas mused.

“That’s for sure.  Come on we should hurry, it’s near 9.”  Nikolas followed Lucky as he navigated his way through the maze streets.
