Chapter 30

Jason didn’t know how Robin had gotten there so fast; she was always one step ahead of him.  He knew that was because she knew him so well and she knew exactly where to leave clues about where she was and where she was going.  All Jason could do was follow them and hope that he would get to her before she tried to do something too drastic.  He was just arriving where the last clue indicated she would be.  It was a small cottage on the outskirts of town.  He used the key she had left for him and let himself in.  It was smartly furnished with simple chairs, a desk, a table, a bed, and a rustic kitchen.  On the desk there was another letter with his name on it.

Dear Jase,

I’m sorry that I’ve had to lead you around but it was the only way I could do this without you trying to get involved.  If I’m not back within four hours of you reading this note then it means that I’m stuck with Erin, and you’ll have a double mess to deal with, sorry.  If I am back then I’ll explain everything.

Love you,

Robin

Jason put down the note and sat to weight.  He couldn’t believe that Robin had done this, it was not like her at all.  She was never the one to take risks; she had always been the first one to get on his case when he did.

Jason weighted for two hours and then had enough weighting; he had never had patience when it came to just weighting for something to happen.  Jason took off his watch and decided that it was time to try to get a hold of Erin.

Is Robin with you?—Jason

Jason sent a message to Erin and passed the floor weighting for a response.  A few minutes later he got a response.

Yes.

I’m on my way.

Jason picked up his coat and headed for the door.  Almost instantly he felt his watch buzz.

NO.

A minute later there was an explanation.

Knowing you, you are alone and this isn’t a job for one person.  Weight for sonny and the rest to get there.—Robin

Jason had to stop for a moment to recover from shock.  And then had to let out a dry laugh.  Robin knew that he would take off without anyone else, but how could she know that he couldn’t get the job done alone?  Jason sat back down to think; he had to scope out the place didn’t he, he had to know what he was up against.  First off he had to know what Robin knew about the aria, so he wouldn’t make the same mistake that she did, and get caught.

What is the security like?

Two hours later Sonny and everyone else arrived at the cottage, they found the note Robin had left for Jason and then another note he had left for them

I’ll be back.  Went to scope out the place.

Jason

Sonny looked at everyone and shrugged.  “I guess we weight.”

Robin left Erin’s room after she had fallen asleep.  Poor Erin had a lot of things to deal with and it was really taking a toll on her.  A door connected Robin and Erin’s rooms so Robin went that way instead of going out into the hall.  Robin entered her room and walked over to her window, it was open so she just sat down next to it and looked out at the stars.  “Oh Jason, I don’t like this,” Robin said in a whisper.  “I don’t know what to do.  Erin is so upset and she doesn’t know what to think of all this.  I wish you were here, it would make things a whole lot easier.”  Robin closed her eyes and sighed.  Jason couldn’t hear her but it made her feel better to talk as if he could.

“That is one wish I can make come true.”

Robin spun around at the sound of a voice behind her.  Her eyes lit up with joy when she saw Jason standing in the middle of the room.  Robin got up and ran over to him, throwing her arms around him she gave him a loving kiss.  “How did you get here?”  She finally asked when they pulled apart.

“I’ve had a lot of experience sneaking in and out of places like this, so I just used what you told me, and came in the front door.”  Jason said with a boyish smile.

“The front door?  You’ve got to be kidding.”  Robin said with a laugh.

“Not kidding.  He has every inch of the walls and gaits under surveillance.  He has everything so heavily guarded that he didn’t even think about putting someone at the door or along the hall.”  Jason explained.

“Leave it up to Delgoto to do that.”  Robin mused.

“Tell me about what’s going on here?”  Jason asked her getting down to business.  Robin told him that it had been Delgoto that had kidnapped Erin.  Delgoto seemed to be keeping Erin there just until he had her meet someone, and then after that he was planning on killing her.  Robin told him about her failed attempt at getting Erin out, but she wouldn’t tell him how she knew where she was and everything else that she knew, she also told him about her using her mother’s name rather then her own.

“I’ll get working on a way to get you out.  I don’t think we’ll all be able to just walk out of here the same way I came in.  I’ll be back.”  Jason kissed her passionately and vanished out her door.

Robin smiled softly to herself and settled in for the night, just knowing that Jason was near made her feel 100% better.

In his study, Delgoto sat looking out a window into the thick blackness.  A tall pail man entered.  He was fidgeting with his hat in his hands.  He was wearing a weight lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck.  “Yes?”  Delgoto said without turning.

“Um…sir…I have news on our patent.”  His voice was thick with nervousness.

“And how is Mr. Brown?”  Delgoto walked over to a glass cabinet and unlocked the doors.  He pulled out a classic mother-of-pear revolver.  He opened up the barrel and emptied out all but one bullet.

The doctor got noticeably more nervous.  “Well he is awake now, but I don’t know how long we can keep him that way.  He seems to be umm…”

“Seems to be what?”  Delgoto closed the barrel and spun it.  “I hope what you have to say is good news, because you know how I get when I get bad news.”

The doctor began to nervously play with his hat again.  “Umm, well…he uh…seems to be going down hill.”  He instinctively flinched at reporting bad news.

Delgoto’s eyes narrowed into steely gray slits.  “How unfortunate, but it works out for the better, I’ll bring Erin down to him tomorrow morning.  Just make sure that he makes it through the night,” Delgoto leveled the gun and aimed it at the doctor. “because it would be unfortunate if Erin would miss a last chance at talking to her dear old dad.”  Delgoto pulled the trigger.  The doctor jumped at the sound of a hallow click.  He looked up relieved to still be alive and gave a sigh of relief.

Jason returned to the cottage where Robin had led him.  He entered the one room building and saw seven figures either sitting, pacing, or asleep.

“Where the hell have you been?”  Sonny asked as soon as he saw Jason.  Sonny had been pacing around the small table in the center of the room.

“Can you be a little bit more quiet man?  I don’t want you to wake up Liz.”  Lucky scolded in a hushed tone.

Sonny ignored the comment, but did lower his voice a little.  “And where is Robin?”  Sonny stood impatiently weighting for an answer.

“She’s with Erin.  At Delgoto’s.”  Jason sat down tiredly and relayed the whole story of everything that had happened.

“Sound’s like we have our work cut our for us tomorrow.  Why don’t you two get some sleep and leave the planning up to the old pros k?”  Luke said to Lucky and Nikolas.  Lucky knew by the sound of his father’s voice that there would be no use tying to argue with him.
