Chapter 24
Mickey
appeared in a doorway. “Oh, how lovely,
the little princess is awake. My it looks small in there, why don’t you come out here
where there is more room.” Mickey said
in moc-sincerity.
“I think
I’ll stay where I’m at.”
“If you
know what’s good for you, you would do as I ask. Or if you would rather be treated like
“You didn’t
think the old bat could have pulled all that off on her own
did you?” Mickey laughed. “I knew the old lady had a grudge against
your father, she wanted revenge, and I wanted his territory. It all would have worked out perfectly, but
your father had thought a head and he had someone lined up to take his place if
something had happened. He actually had
a line up of people to take his place; I was only number two on the list. All I have to do now,
is get rid of number one.”
“What do I
have to do with it?”
“You don’t
know? You are number one.” Mickey informed her with a wicked smile.
Everything
clicked. He had to kill her to get his
hands on her father’s territory.
Jason’s penthouse
“Who’s
Mickey?” Sonny asked looking around the
room. No one had an answer. “Forget this.
Lucky show me how use the tracking device.”
“Okay.” Lucky started to show Sonny how to use the
tracking device.
“I’m going
to see what’s taking Robin so long.”
Jason said, it didn’t matter because no one was
listening to him. Jason walked into the
kitchen and didn’t see Robin. This is
odd, Jason thought, there was juice on the counter, but no Robin. She hadn’t come out of the kitchen, so the
only other place she could be was in the guestroom. Jason took another step into the kitchen and
saw a sight that made his heart drop into his stomach. Robin was lying on the floor with blood
around her. “Oh, my
god! Robin!” Jason ran over to her and knelt down next to
her.
Sonny came
running into the kitchen. Jason looked
up to him frantically; he looked back down at Robin. He rested her head in his lap and brushed the
hair out of her eyes. “Robin, come on,
please. Wake up.” Jason checked her pulse, her heartbeat was
weak but it was there and her breathing was shallow. “Robin don’t leave
me.” Jason told her fanatically through
tears. He checked all over her body but
there was no sign of where the blood was coming from. Then his memory triggered back to when Carly
had her son Michele, she had gone into premature labor, and there had been a
lot of blood. Very much like what had
just happened, but only Carly had been 8 ½ months pregnet, Robin couldn’t be
any more then one month along.
Jason
scooped Robin up into his arms, ran past Sonny and out of the penthouse down to
his car. He placed her gently into the
back seat and hoped into the front, there was no time to weight for his driver,
he had to leave now. As he sped along the
road to
Jason was
pacing the weighting room. He didn’t
know what to do for one of the first times in his life he was scared. Sonny had been there but Jason had sent him
back to the pent house to continue trying to locate
“Jason, you
can go in and see her now,”
“Thank
you.” Jason walked into Robin’s
room. He crossed over to the bed and
kissed her forehead. “How are you
feeling?”
“I still
feel a little queasy and tired, but other then that I feel
fine.” Robin said quietly.
“What
happened?”
“I don’t
know, I think I just fainted from the stress.
I didn’t eat much today because of everything with
“Forget
about that for now, Sonny’s working on it.
You just get some sleep okay?”
Jason kissed her forehead again.
“I love you.”
“I love you
too.” Robin’s eyes closed slowly and a
few minutes later she was fast asleep.
Jason just sat by her side; he wanted to be there for her when she woke
up.
Half an
hour later Robin’s doctor came in. “Dr.
Scanlon, how is Robin doing?”
“How about
we take this outside I don’t want to wake her up.” They left the room. “First off you can call me Karen. Jason, do you remember the last thing Robin
had to eat or drink?”
“Huh, oh,
she went to get something to drink right before I found her.”
“Do you
remember if she had anything to drink about 4 hours ago?”
“I think
she had something to drink when we were at the cottage. Why?”
“Jason, we
both know what kind of business you’re in and it can be dangerous. I guess what I’m trying to say is that this
was not caused by stress or anything natural, Robin was poisoned and what was
used would have taken about four hours to take an affect. We had to pump her stomach and all we found
were liquids, that’s why I asked if she had anything to drink.”
“Poisoned? What?”
Jason looked at her in shock.
“Robin’s
going to be okay, but…” Karen looked down.
This was the part of her job she hated most.
Jason just
looked at her. He could tell there was
something more that she wasn’t telling him.
“But what?
What aren’t you telling me?”
Karen
opened her mouth to say something, but closed it when she couldn’t come up with
the words to tell him.
Robin was
going to be okay, then what else could she have to
tell him that was so bad, Jason wondered.
His eyes grew wide with fear.
“No, please tell me no.” Jason’s
voice was choked with anguish. Tears
streamed down his face and his legs couldn’t hold the weight of his body, he
sank down into a near by chair. “The baby.” He said
softly through his tears. He covered his
face with hid hands and cried.
