Chapter 13
Erin picked up the evening mail and
walked into the lonely cottage.
Practically all the mail was for Brenda and L&B. “Hello, what’s this?” Erin said out loud. A
small brown package was addressed to her; it had no return address so Erin opened it up intrigued. It was a tape. Erin popped it into the VCR to see just what had been sent to
her.
A man
watched from his hidden place as Erin started the tape. He
laughed to himself as he saw a look a horror wash over her face. He couldn’t see the TV but he knew what it
was, after all he had been the one who had made the tape. It was going to be fun watching Erin fall to pieces and get just what
she deserved.
Erin sat motionless, “Don’t forget your
kind of poison has no cure, the only thing you can do is stay away. How many people have to die before you learn
that? Your brother, your mother, Carrie,
your father, and now Brenda, how many people do you want to die, who do you
want to be next? Maybe the next one
could be a friend that’s just about to get everything she’s ever wanted? Or should the twins have the same kind of
family that you did. No family that is,
better yet, how’s your boyfriend doing?”
The voice on the tape stopped but the pictures of her friends and family
were still playing. Erin reached with an unsteady hand to
off the VCR when the pictures stopped playing and it turned to live footage of
her and Nik. Erin’s had stopped in mid reach, this
was taken about a week ago when her and Nik were getting her things, the night they had almost…
Erin snapped into action. She had seen enough; no one did this to her
and got away with it. There was no way
she was going to sit back and just take it.
The old Erin
was back and this time nothing was going to get in her way. Whoever had done this was going to pay, and
she was going to make sure of it. She
snatched up the tape, grabbed her jacket and car keys and stormed out of the
house.
Jason’s penthouse
“Jas, I’m
going to go up stares and get some sleep.
Will you be up soon?” Robin asked
wearily.
“I’ll be up
in a little bit, I have a few things to do
first.” Robin nodded and continued up
the stares. Jason sat down on the couch
and looked over the books for Luke’s. He
hated the way Luke did his books, he always had to
redo them every time he let Luke do them.
He was at his wit’s end with one of Luke’s blunders when he heard
someone storming through the hall headed towards his door. Moments later Erin stormed in red with furry.
“Jason, we
have a problem,” Erin
said in a low growl. All the time
driving over she kept getting more and more mad. “This showed up in my mail today. We have to do something about it, NOW.” Erin said throwing the tape on the couch.
“What is
this?” Jason asked picking up the
tape. He had never seen Erin this way before.
“That ass
hole decided it would be funny to throw death in my face. If anyone throws something in my face they
better be prepared for me to throw it right
back.” She was fuming; Erin had never felt this angry in her
life.
“What did
you have in mind?” Jason asked trying to
figure out what she was thinking. He
remembered Charley had told him that she was good at getting into trouble.
“I’m going
to do my homework and find out just who in the hell is doing this to me. I just got my life back and this son of a
bitch wants to take it away from me again.
Can I count on you for your help?”
She asked quietly as her anger slowly evening out.
“What do
you want me to do?”
“I’m going
to need a few things to get prepared and I’m going to need you to get them for
me.”
“What do
you need?”
“I’ll tell
you that when I get everything planed out.
I just wanted to make sure that you would back me up when the time
comes.”
“Erin you should know by now that I’m
always here for you and I’d do anything to help you.”
Erin gave him a warm smile. “I know, but I just needed to hear you say
it. Do you think you could have some of
your men keep their ears open for anyone by the name of Aneleh
Cass? That’s the person who was sending
me the E-mails.”
“That can
be done easily. Could you get me a copy
of the E-mails he’s sent you?” Jason
asked writing down the name.
“I’d been think about doing this for a wile so I brought a copy of
them with me.” Erin reached into her purse and pulled
out a couple dozen pages of paper.
“We’ve been playing a game by E-mail of a wile, that’s why there are so
many pages.”
“Okay, I’ll
go over them tonight and see what I can find.”
“Oh, one
more thing, a lot of them are codes for web addresses,
so I put the answers at the bottom of each E-mail.”
“Thanx.” Jason looked down at the papers and began to read
the first page.
“I’ll let
you get started, so I’ll head on home.” Erin said heading toward the door.
“Erin,” Jason said stopping her. “Be careful, okay.”
Erin smiled warmly at him, “Don’t worry
I will.” She turned to leave but thought
of something. “Oh, by
the way. If you watch the tape,
keep your cool at the end.” She quickly
slipped out the door before Jason could ask what she meant.
