Chapter 12

Later that day Erin offered to take the twins for a few days if Jax needed to be alone.

Jax shook his head sadly and looked up into the star filled sky.  The day had gone by in a blure of people and flowers and condolences.  “No, that’s okay.  I’m going to take the kids to Malibu.”

Malibu?”  Erin asked not understanding the significance of the place.

“Brenda never told you about Malibu?” Erin shook her head in a no.  Malibu was where I accepted her proposal, it was kind of our special place.  I want the kids to know just how special that place was to us.”

“I understand,” Erin placed a hand on his arm.  “But if you need anything I want you to come to me.”

Jax managed a sad smile, “I will,” He couldn’t help but think about how much Erin was like Brenda.  He looked at his watched then looked over at V who was across the room.  “We have to get going, I asked for the jet to be ready as soon as possible.”

“You’re not staying for the funeral?”  Erin asked alarmed.

“No.”  Jax said sadly and walked away.

V noticed Erin’s blank and confused look and came over to her.  “Mr. Jax is just trying to deal with this the best way he can.  He’s not going to the funeral because he can’t.  Well, physically he can, but mentally he would just shut down,” V shook her head.  “Sometimes I don’t understand him, but I try to accept what he does.  I know it’s hard, but can you try to do the same?”  V was speaking very softly, her tone indicated that she had learned this from experience.

He talks to you doesn’t he?”  Erin asked suddenly.

V thought a moment.  “Well I guess so, why do you ask?”

“Because you seem to be the only one.  He won’t talk to me, Robin, or anyone else.  You seem to be the only person he can talk to, that is, after Brenda was killed.  Why is that?”

“I don’t know, but my guess would be because I didn’t have any ties to Brenda, except through him.  I guess I don’t remind him of her.  Robin was like Brenda’s sister, and Brenda thought of you as almost a daughter, all she thought of me was someone that worked for Jax.  I hope that answers your question.”  V said hopefully.

“Yah, I guess.  I take it that you’re going with him to Malibu?”  Erin asked.

“Yes, as much as I trust Mr. Jax, I don’t trust him being alone.  In a heartbeat he lost his wife, the love of his life, his best friend, and the mother of his children.  When all this hits him it won’t be a good idea for him to be alone.”

“That’s a good idea.  I’m glad he has someone to turn to.”

“I better get going.  I don’t want to keep Jax weighting.”  V said giving Erin’s had a squeeze.

Erin watched as they left.  She prayed to God that everything was going to be okay with them.  She had given Brenda her promise that Jax would be okay and she didn’t want Brenda’s last wish to go unanswered.  Erin picked up her purse and jacket and headed out the door to Brenda’s funeral.

The funeral was filled with people that loved her and ended quickly, just like Brenda’s life.
