CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Jonathan ran after her and caught her arm. “What do you mean we? You are not going anywhere but home. I’ll go and get the dagger. I’m not risking you getting hurt, again.”  Jonathan told Lisa firmly.

Lisa knew that Jonathan had made up his mind and when he did that there was no hope in changing it. “Okay but hurry up.” Lisa watched Jonathan take his rowboat and start off. Lisa waited a few minuets before she set off in her small canoe to follow Jonathan at a safe distance.  Jonathan rowed strait there but Lisa took the long way through the reeds so not to be seen.

Jonathan rowed up to Max’s dock. It looked as if he was not home yet. Jonathan tied up his boat and walked up to the house. He knocked on the door just to be safe, no ancer. Good then he wasn’t home. Jonathan opened the door. “So far so good.” Jonathan said just to hear his own voice. The one room building was neat and simple. There was a wood stove in one corner, a bed in another, a small table in the third and a dresser in the fourth. On the table was Lisa’s dagger. Jonathan picked it up and placed it in his belt. He looked around the room one more time. On the bed was a black clock. “I wonder if that is what he used to conceal himself in the dark?” Jonathan said out loud.

“You should be able to answer that one.” A cold harsh voice boomed from the door.  Jonathan spun around. Mad Max was living up to his name, his eyes were glowing red with anger. “What are you doing hear?”

“I... was... uhh... looking... for... my... hat... that’s it my hat. Well I think it isn’t hear so I’ll be leaving now.” Jonathan’s voice stumbled. Normally he was good at making up stories but he had never bee confronted by a murderer. Mad Max moved toward Jonathan, soon he loomed over Jonathan. He looked like a cat ready to pounce on a bird.
