CHAPTER SEVEN

They were oblivious to the people around them who were whispering and pointing at the two.

When the two reached the castle Lisa turned to Jonathan, “Come upstairs. I’ll show you your answer.” she said in a hushed whisper. Lisa led Jonathan past the old throne room, up a long winding staircase, down a never ending hallway, and past many locked doors. They came to a door that was open and next to the door there was a sign that read ‘Doctor is out’.

Jonathan thought that it was odd that the only doctor in town (Lisa’s mother) was not at her office.

“In there.” was all Lisa said.

Jonathan entered the room and saw three stretchers with a body on each of them. He walked to the nearest one and looked into the face. It was Mono, her eyes were shut as if in sleep. She looked like an angel, beautiful and happy. The worried look that was always on her face was gone it was replaced with a look of rejoycment. She was singing in the Lord's choir now and looking into the face of Jesus.

Jonathan looked at each body tern. All of then had an angelic look to them. By the time he left the room it was getting hard to see through the tears in his eyes. He would not let Lisa see him cry so he turned his back and leaned his head on the ruff stone wall.

“Now you know what I ran from.” Lisa quietly said. She reached out her hand and placed it lightly on Jonathan’s shoulder. “I found this in Sussie’s hand.” she opened her hand and showed Jonathan the button and thread. Jonathan said that he was sure he had seen it someplace before but he was not sure where.

They left the castle and walked to the back stables. Lisa stood next to her mare, Nightmare, and rubbed him.

“Oh, yah.” Jonathan said as if he had just remembered something, “The reason I was looking for you was that Mad Magic Max was going to perform today at the town square. If we hurry we can still make it there in time.” Jonathan said in hopes that it might cheer up Lisa.
