CHAPTER FOUR

“Lisa, look, be careful, okay?” Jonathan’s voice and face showed great concern for his friend.

“I’ll be fine inside. Brenda is inside and Mom’s at a meeting at the pub,” Lisa said looking around the dark street.

“Do you want me to stay here until your mother gets home?” Jonathan asked noticing the fear in Lisa’s eyes. Jonathan was two years older than Lisa and stood 2’ taller than her. He had dark blond hair, pale blue eyes, and an olive skin tone.

“If it is okay with my sister.” Lisa replied.

“Lisa, your home, thank goodness. I’ve been so scared. I had a dream and you were being chased by a big black shadow.” Brenda said running into her sister’s arms. Lisa thought better then to tell her sister about her run in with the Black Where, so she would not upset Brenda.

Lisa wiped the tears from Brenda’s face and smiled wormy at her. “Brenda do you mind if Jonathan stays with us for a wile?” Lisa asked kneeling so that she was the size of Brenda.

“No, I don’t mined. As long we can just go upstairs. I don’t like it down here when it is dark.” Brenda said looking around the interior of the main hall. I was a dark and gloomy place at during the day and twice as bad at night and to make it even worse only one of the lantern was still burning

“Okay Brenda we’ll go upstairs to the sitting room. How was your day, did you have fun helping Mom?”

“It was okay but nothing really happened. Carry, from down the rode, fell into the water and got cold shock. But she’ll be fine, she’s at home. Oh, and Mrs. Marker had her baby. It was a little girl. She named her Coleasha.”

The three of them walked up the narrow winding stares to the second floor to the sitting room. When they were all in Brenda closed the door and locked it.

“Brenda why did you lock the door? We won’t be able to hear Mom when she gets home.” Lisa asked looking at her sister in wonder.

“I don’t know but leave it locked, please.” Brenda pleaded

“Fine but if Mom gets mad you have to take the responsibility, okay?”

“Can I just tell you about my dream. I’ve just got to tell somebody.” Lisa looked down at her little sister and nodded for her to begin.

“It started with you and the boys walking along the streets you were in the middle and the boys were in a circle around you one by one a shadow dropped on each of the boys until it was just you and Jonathan. Then you started running and the streets were getting darker and darker and the shadow was chasing after you. It started getting closer and closer until it was about a foot behind you and the dreem just froze there with that shadow about to grab you. Then I woke up. Lisa, please tell me what it means.”

“It probably just means that you had something to eat that you shouldn’t have before you went to bed.” Lisa joked.

“Lisa please. Just tell me what it means.”

“Brenda I doesn't mean anything. Dreams don’t mean a thing. It’s all in your imagination. Now I think it is way past your bedtime. If Mom comes home and finds you not in bed I’ll be in a lot of trouble. So go to bed. I’ll be there in a minute to tell you a story. Now off to bed.” Lisa said unlocking the door and opening it for Brenda. After Brenda had left Lisa turned to Jonathan “Sorry that you had to sit through my sister’s dream story. She comes up with some of the strangest things.”

“That’s okay. I think it is great that your sister looks up to you so much.”

When Lisa’s mother got home she thanked Jonathan for staying.
