Chapter 15

“I’m looking for a Kaitlin Fenton; does anyone know where she is?”  A tall young man in a delivering uniform called backstage.

“I’m Kaitlin.  What can I do for you?”  Kaitlin wove her way through the crowd of people hurrying around back stage.

“I have a delivery for you.”

Eve stopped next to her and gave her a knowing grin, “I wish my man was that thoughtful; sending flowers or opening night.”

“Jonathan isn’t “my man”,” Kait tried to remind her but the smile on her lips said the opposite.  Eve gave her her famous ‘oh-really?’ looks.  “Well, not yet at least.”  Kait admitted.  She signed for the flower box and opened it up.

“What the hell?”  Eve murmured in shock and disbelief.  Kaitlin just looked down into the box, not saying a word.  Something white, a card caught her attention.  She reached in and carefully removed it, avoiding toughing the box’s contents.

Printed in smooth masculine handwriting were the words: You still with him?  Even after all we’ve shared?  I’m hurt.  Break a leg Kitty Kat; I’ll be watching you.

Finally Kait spoke; her mouth set in a grim line.  “Eve, can you get Jonathan?  He should be in the audience, near the front, with a group of people from The U.”  Eve was gone in a flash, a few months later she was back, with Jonathan at her heals.

“What is it?”  Jonathan asked concern etched in all his features.

“He’s back.”  All at once the fear was gone, replaced with blind furry.

Kaitlin’s eyes met his and he almost flinched under the intensity of her anger.  She was no longer quaking in fear but in anger.  She was fighting back.  Jonathan didn’t know weather to be happy for her, or afraid.  He had no clue as to what she would do next.

“As soon as the play’s over we’re going to pay Garrett a visit, this cowered is done tormenting me.”

Jonathan looked at her then smiled, and then he became serious again.  “What did he do this time?”

“He sent me this,” Kaitlin handed him the box.

Jonathan looked at the contents in shock and finally disgust.  One dozen dead re roses lay in the box and scattered among them were dozens of pictures, all of him and Kait together.  “I can call her right now if you want.”

“Nom I don’t’ want to upset any of the cast, this can keep for two hours.”

“Okay, but the moment the play is over we’re calling her.”  Jonathan made sure.

Kait gave him a smile.  “Nothing will happen, this place is crowded, and there are too many people.  You’re such worry wort,” Kait teased.  “But I love you for it.”  She whispered in his ear then kissed his cheek.  “I have to get ready; can you put this some where?”  She asked softly blushing at what she had just admitted.

“As you wish,” Jonathan used one of her favorite movie lines and affectionately kissed her forehead then leaned back and held her gaze.  For a moment he just stood there staring into her eyes, cradling her face in is hands.

Kait could tell he wanted to say something else but he kept silent.  She blushed under his searching gaze, she was suddenly very aware that people surrounded them.  “I have to get ready,” her voice was only a whisper.

“Okay, I’ll see you on stage,” Jonathan took one last searching look at her.  For some reason he had a bad feeling about leaving.  He let her go and watched her retreat into the darkness of backstage.  He knew she had quite a bit to think about; she had a good size role in the play not to mention she was backstage manager, that’s why he didn’t tell her about the lead in the pit of his stomach.

As Kait put on her makeup she pondered what Jonathan said. “As you wish” What did he mean by that?  Did me just mean that he would take care of it, or did he mean it like how it was written; a way of saying “I love you” without saying it?  Or was he just referring to one of my favorite movies as a way to distract me?

Oh, stop it!  You are reading into this more then necessary!
