FOR LOVE OF....

Out of the mist of swirling grey,
from storm tossed ships of yesterday
Beyond the reach of mortal men,
past the touch of greed and sin
Strides a man bold and free,
wrested from the cold black sea
And in his chest a pulse of light,
a love, a fire, a warm and tender, gentle night.

Across the windswept purple heather,
carried forth by hoof and leather
Spurred by the burning in his soul,
through hell and fire to reach his goal
Through the pines tall and green,
ever onward past lakes serene
And in his eye a gaze of steel, a sword, a spear,
a memory of a truth surreal.

Through the doors of ancient oak he strides,
his cloak and fear both cast aside
In  warriors arms, he lifts her higher,
fills his heart, his soul, his mind, his fire
Gently to her feet she slips
and to his mouth, her soft, sweet lips
And in her heart there beats a drum,
a laugh, a smile, a joy of dreams still yet to come.
