Layered Background Tutorial for msn groups
1. Ok first you need to copy and paste your template to your own computer so do that first using notepad to copy it into then save it - this way you get to have the templates at your finger tips anytime and you dont have to worry using bandwidth.
This tutorial assumes some knowledge of making pages and adding backgrounds to them in msn.
Get your templates here : Three layers : Four Layers
2. Ok so once you have done that make your new page or post. Ok already done Great lol ...
3. Now you need to click on "Use HTML to create your page" This will get a blank page with <DIV><DIV> on it ignore this writing.
4. Now open the HTML template file you saved earlier. Now copy and paste the entire HTML code of the template into your new blank page. Remember don't just copy and paste it from here thats useing my bandwidth and thats illegal.
5. Great youre doing well so far. If you want you can now check and make sure you have your layers by clicking on the "Use HTML to create your page" again.... But remember that it will be only the small borders you see because we havent put any backgrounds in yet. Now click "Use HTML to create your page" again to go back to the HTML code.
6. Now to put backgrounds in our layers you need to have their URL's just like you do when you are doing a single layer background. (This is done by finding the picture of the background in another window in your albums getting its properties and copying the URL)
7. Now you have the URL copied you go to the template code find the bit that looks something similar to this: TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=4 width="97.5%" background="Outer Background URL" border=1> <TBODY> See the red bit thats where we need to add our URL. So What I do is just highlight that bit between the "" but leave the "" there they are part of the HTML code and you need them. Then with the words OUTER BACKGROUND URL highlighted just paste the URL you have copied in - it will overwrite the other words.
8. Now for multiple layers you will find BACKGROUND URL several times in the HTML code. You can use all different Backgrounds you just copy and paste the URL of each background you want to use into the appropriate space.
9. Some of the templates list them with numbers like 1st URL 2nd URL etc etc, an easy way to remember what your up to is that the bottom layer of your page is the top/first URL of the template code and as you layer them on top of each other they go down the code page.
10. If you get confused you can always check and see how its going by clicking "Use HTML to create your page" again to see what its like.
Thats pretty much it really once you have all your layers in the HTML code then you can Click the "Use HTML to create your page" One last time and now just use the top layer as you would any normal page if there is writing already on it then just delete it and add what you want. You add pics and things the way you would normally on a single background. Hope this was useful ...
