Oct. 23, 2001 [Brooke's office at Tempo]
[Edmund has hired Phoebe as Brooke's assistant.]

Brooke: Truthfully, I've missed her edge. You can be a prince sometimes.

Edmund: And the other times?

Brooke: I'm getting to that.

Edmund: What'd I do now?

Brooke: You are stonewalling me about Proteus, and I want you to name your  source.

Edmund: Not until the investigation's over. And when the story breaks, the  law takes over.

Brooke: Are you making this decision for both of us?

Edmund: I guess I am.

Brooke: That's amazing. One minute a prince, the next a chauvinist pig. Would you like to know what makes Proteus tick?

Edmund: I'm working on it.

Brooke: You're working on getting the facts, I could give you a face to go  with them. It's what I do best. Ahem. And I could give you more, Edmund, if  you put me in the loop.

Edmund: If I did that, you'd figure out where I'm getting my leads.  [Knock on door]

Brooke: Yeah, come in.  Simone: Someone here ordered takeout from S.O.S.?

Brooke: Oh, you must have the wrong office.

Edmund: No, I -- that's -- that's me. I didn't have breakfast. [gives Simone  money] That about cover it?

Simone: Yeah. Thanks. And don't worry, I put the extra ketchup inside just  the way you ordered it.

Edmund: Great.  Brooke: Since when do you like extra ketchup?  Edmund: I always -- you never noticed that?

Brooke: If you're hungry, how come you're not eating?

Edmund: Brooke, stop.

Brooke: What is in the S.O.S. bag that you're hiding from me?

Edmund: I'm not hiding anything.

Brooke: Mateo. I'm right. It's Mateo, isn't it? Mateo is your source. Edmund,  you have to tell me. Has Proteus targeted Mateo? Well, it's obviously not good news from the expression on your face.

Edmund: We knew Proteus had big plans. They just got bigger.

Brooke: Edmund, then you have to bring me in on this.

Edmund: No. No. Absolutely not. These guys have threatened Mateo and his  family and everybody close to him. Brooke, this note was found on a toy on  Mateo's doorstep with his wife and his baby sleeping inside.

Brooke: Oh, my God.

Edmund: Yeah. It's bad, and you're not going anywhere near it.

Brooke: Look, I -- I appreciate you -- your concern about that.

Edmund: It's not just for you, OK? If you gamble with your life, you're not  the only one that loses. Did you ever consider the fact that maybe I don't  want to lose you?

[Brooke reaches up and kisses him.]

Oct. 24, 2001: [Brooke and Edmund are still kissing - from yesterday.]

Brooke: [pulls away kind of laughing...embarrassed] Oh. I'm sorry...aren't  I the impulsive one today.

Edmund: Yeah, a little out of character. [smiling]

Brooke: Not very.

Edmund: Uh, very.

Brooke: Well, what I mean is, no...what I mean is...I...you [confused and  embarrassed] know I didn't plan to do that.

Edmund: Look what I meant was, uh....I don't know what I mean.

Brooke: Well, you know, it's something that we used to do.

Edmund: Yeah, all the time. I thought I'd lost my touch though, you know?

Brooke: Yes, well, you know, um... it's just been a long time since...ohh,  this is very awkward.

Edmund: Yeah, it is.

Brooke: It is?

Edmund: Yeah, you feel embarrassed. You know, like you stepped over a line.

Brooke: Oh, I see. You know how I feel. Is that it?

Edmund: [walking towards her] I remember how you feel. [This time he kisses her.]

Brooke: [speechless for a few seconds...tries to laugh] Well, where did that  come from?

Edmund: Well, you started it.

Brooke: Edmund!

Edmund: I'm just trying to keep it in perspective. [smiling]

Brooke: I'm just a little confused.

Edmund: I think you need a little confusion Brooke.

Brooke: And what does that mean? Are you making fun of me?

Edmund: Kind a. Brooke, what are you afraid of?

Brooke: I...I'm afraid..uh...this was a mistake.

Edmund: Now you think it was a mistake to kiss me?

Brooke: Look, I don't mean to be a yo yo.

Edmund: Ya are. Brooke: What I mean is I don't spend time pining after you.

Edmund: Oh, damn!

Brooke: What I mean is, Edmund, you know, I.. I've thought about what we've  had in the past. I..I think about it...I ...what..you don't?

Edmund: You're just adorable when you try to justify your indecisiveness  [smiling]

Brooke: Well, now I remember. [She walks behind her desk.]

Edmund: What?

Brooke: Why we broke up. Because you're such a royal pain in the....

Edmund: Oh, come, come on. You love it Brooke. [silence]

Edmund: Brooke, you afraid of going backwards?

Brooke: Well, aren't you? I mean when we got together way back then we both  were afraid of a lot.

Edmund: Yeah, I know. I know. But I never regretted...my time with  you...not for a second.

Brooke: Even when I chose Tad?

Edmund: Yeah, well, OK, fine...for a day or two I wanted you to disappear.  Look Brooke, I don't want to live in the past, OK? And if this...kissing  episode means....something....I don't want it to mean that we're trying to  recreate what we had.

Brooke: You don't?

Edmund: No I don't. Because what we had ultimately....you know, didn't  work. So, you know, what I've been thinking, um, in the last ten minutes  with my scattered thoughts in my brain, is, uh, that if we were going to try,  you know anything, we should just clean slate it. What do you think?

Brooke: I'm thinking.

Edmund: Let me know when you're done. [silence]

Edmund: How long did you want to do that?

Brooke: What? Oh, kiss you?

Edmund: Yeah, you know, like in the last...couple of years?

Brooke: Oh, well, you know, Edmund, it's the only thing I've thought of in  the entire time you were dating the Devane family. What kind of question is  that?

Edmund: Come on, Brooke, just tell me.

Brooke: OK. I have never stopped....wanting to kiss you, and you know it.  [quiet and serious]

Edmund: Really?

Brooke: Really. [They lean across the desk to kiss each other.]

Edmund: Lucky me.

[Kiss ends]

Brooke: OK, all kidding aside.

Edmund: OK

Brooke: Where do we go from here?

Edmund: You said, all kidding aside, right?

Brooke: Edmund, I just want you to know I don't expect anything from you  because of what happened here today.

Edmund: What about fun?

Brooke: What about it?

Edmund: You remember what fun is like?

Brooke: It's been a while.

Edmund: For me too. I'm wanting me some.

Brooke: [giggling] OK.

Edmund: OK, so expect that, if nothing else.

[Leo knocks on the door and interrupts them.]
