| AMC's BROOKE MEA CULPA Suddenly good girl Brooke English is Public Enemy No. 1 in Pine Valley because she kept mum about Maria being alive on All My Children. "In real life, she'd be in an institution," says Julia Barr (Brooke) with a shrug. "Or drinking. She's making amends, and that is going to go on for a while. But it would be nice if viewers saw her go through some therapy, to understand why she's chosen certain things." Meanwhile, most ot the town is steering clear of Brooke. "She's going to be the town pariah for a while," notes Barr. "She needs to do whatever she can to make sure these people come together and help Edmund, because she does love him." Barr doesn't try to excuse Brooke's behavior. "She made a terrible mistake," she concedes. "She will not be able to live with herself if she doesn't rectify it, and in her desire to do that, Edmund will begin to soften. But right now, how could he possibly? The betrayal of someone you loved, who you considered this moral touchstone, who has been with you through your traumas, who you thought you knew through and through-what a shock that is!" Brooke also has to accept that her lies have not only hurt the Santos and Grey families but her own. "She is willing to do whatever it takes because she sees that it's not only affecting Edmund and his kids, but her own son." |
