AMC fires up the romance between Brooke and Edmund this week when they find it impossible to deny the passion they feel for each other - even though Edmund refuses to reveal the haunting secrets from his past.

As the week begins, Edmund, dead broke after giving Dimitri the $10,000 he stole from Dimitri's father, plus interest, has accepted a job working for Brooke at Tempo magazine. Realizing the attraction she feels for Edmund is growing more powerful, Brooke asks him if he's still in love with Angelique. He reassures her that he cares for Angelique only like a big brother would, and Brooke believes him.

Surrendering to their passion, Brooke and Edmund make Love, and spend the night together. But their sleep is interrupted when Edmund suddenly awakens, trembling with fear after a chilling nightmare. When a concerned Brooke asks him what's wrong, he tells her he's had the same recurring nightmare since he was a child, but he refuses to discuss the details. Brooke realizes she shouldn't press the issue.

Later in the week, they become even closer than before as they help a frantic Trevor make last-minute arrangements for his wedding to Natalie. Brooke is amazed at how adroitly Edmund sweet-talks her Aunt Phoebe into having the wedding reception at her house, even though Phoebe has no love for either the bride or the groom.

It's unusual for strong-willed, moralistic Phoebe to approve of Brooke's relationship with Edmund, but she's completely enchanted by her niece's new man. In fact, she even encourages their romance, instead of trying to break them up, which would be her normal reaction. What strange power does this charming stranger have over the snobbish Phoebe that has turned her into his ardent champion? Does Edmund really care about Brooke, or does he love Angelique..in much more than a brotherly manner?

In exclusive interviews with SOAP OPERA MAGAZINE, the actors who portray these characters give viewers some fascinating insights into the web of emotions that have enmeshed Brooke and Edmund.

John Callahan (Edmund) says he looks upon Brooke as "a warm, caring woman who's raising a child on her own. She's bright, very pretty, and has a certain spunkiness that can keep up with Edmund. His worldly cynicism blends well with her straight-ahead view of life. There's a nice relationship between them yet sparks fly. I don't know what's in store for them. It will be interesting to see how Edmund handles her authority since Brooke is his boss as well as his lover. From the board room to the bedroom, there may be a power struggle going on," John says with a laugh. As for Edmund's relationship with Angelique, John points out: "Well, they were childhood sweethearts, and you never forget your first. Edmund feels a great injustice has been done to her when she married Dimitri because of the way he treats her. As Edmund sees it Dimitri has been two-timing Angelique with Erica. We'll find out more later about the mystery connecting Edmund's family and Dimitri's family. There's much to be explored there, and its just starting to come out."

Julia Barr (Brooke), describing her character's instant attraction to Edmund says, "It's one of those things that happen. You know, you look at someone across a crowded room you don't know why. Brooke sees this man and all of a sudden it's like, "Oh God who's this?" I think she's always been attracted to men with sort of an edge. "I think she's also impressed with Edmund's talents and creativity They recognize they have a certain common ground, and it's exciting for them. There's this chemistry between them- it's just "BOOM!" and that's it. Of course, I'm always thinking, "When is the other shoe going to drop?"

Ruth Warick (Phoebe) explains why her character is suddenly so approving niece's relationship with a total stranger. "First of all, he's a Pulitzer Prize-winner, and he's intelligent. Let's face it- Edmund's a very charming man. "Phoebe is susceptible to con men, there's no doubt about that. She loves a man who comes across as a gentleman and uses beautiful language. That's how Langley got her in the first place. And that's what she sees in Edmund. He has style and class and brains. She thinks he's good match for Brooke. So instead of being shocked, she's thrilled."
